Living in/near Bristol
Not really a newbie here!
I am wondering what Bristol is like, where are the best/safest places to live and where should i avoid.
Looking to rent a single bed flat or room then a 3/4br house.
Names of agents and some idea of costs would be good for rental and to buy.
nrm

My daughter is a student there and loves the place. If you wait until July all the students will be vacating their flats so I guess that might be a good time to search around. Parking is a nightmare. Clifton is the "in" place except the residents get fed up with late night drunken students. Avoid St Paul's district. Can get a bit rough on Friday/Saturday nights. dl

Clifton is nice but you'll be lucky to get a four bed house there for less than £500,000, and you can spend a hell of alot more than that.
Where will you be working and what's your budget?

Area's to go for (in the city)
- Clifton - fairly upmarket area, limited parking but generally very nice, nice bars etc. Best area for young professionals IMO (or Redland)
- Reland - near to Clifton and similar sort of thing, other than tends to be more suburn type houses with gardens rather than Victoria flats.
- Waterfront - lots of new flats, very good access to centre of city
Avoid;
- St Pauls - fairly run down immigrant area, best avoided unless you are a Jamaican drug dealer or are looking to get mugged/stabbed/shot
- Easton - not far from St Pauls - run down asian area. Best avoided.
Generally a nice city! Nights out in the centre of town can be a bit chavvy but then probably the same as most cities.
