How long until Sat Nav is banned?

How long until Sat Nav is banned?
Given that it is now illegal to use a mobile phone while driving and it is also illegal to eat an apple while driving, how can it still be legal to have a screen displaying info for you to read while driving?
I'm not saying I'm in favour of banning something else, but how can looking at a screen whilst driving be safer than eating an apple?

Is it just apples that are banned, hope so as I'm partial to the odd Mars bar, bottle of coke, pasty, etc. while driving.

They won't be able to ban GPS technology as the Road Pricing Scheme depends upon it. It's also a lot safer having something speaking instructions to you than having people trying to read maps while driving or suddenly slaming their brakes on becuase they've missed a turning. It's also going to be almost impossible to enforce a ban as people could just move the unit out of view from the outside of the car.

The list of "potentially" dangerous activities that take place in car is limitless, but if we worried about them all, nobody would be driving at all.

Ah, the days of driving over the limit on a foggy night with no lights on, a ciggy in one hand, the phone in the other arguing with the wife whilst receiving a BJ from the girlfriend are well and truly over

I've been involved in 4 RT accidents in the last 10 years or so. 2 I was run in to from behind whilst stationary and twice where I was a passenger in a car that went off the road.
In none of them were mobile phones, smoking, eating apples or using Sat Nav a factor. In every case good old fashioned driver error was to blame, mis-reading the conditions and driving at an inappropriate speed for them. I'd rather we focus on improving driving standards as a whole rather than finding something else to ban.

I once saw a woman driving in morning rush hour traffic whilst using a pair of curling tongs to style her hair. I had her in sight for around a minute and she only looked at the road ahead twice by dipping her head to peek under the rear view mirror she was engrossed in.
I do admit I may have been as negligable as she was at the time as I was busy waving my arms at her and screaming my lungs out at her stupidity.

She looked and drove absolutely terrified.
I was pretty terrified too, as I tried to get away as fast as possible.
