another diet question
if eating around 1200 cals (1200 is a guess)is that BAD? (ie not lose weight)
can't really say how many cals i eat
on a sensible day,
branflakes, and skimmed milk
spaghetti bolognese, with a small handful of salad
1 nana,
3-4 apples,
2-3 oranges
1 ltr water.
jacket potato with cottage cheese and handful of salad.
may snack on nuts and raisins.

What's the question?
Are you asking if this is 1,200 calories per day?
Are you asking if 1,200 calories is bad?
Are you eating 1,200 calories?
How heavy are you?
How active are you?
Do you drink alcohol?

If you're a man...then you should be looking at approx 2000 calories intake + exercise per day for dieting. Any less and the body will start to hang on to fat. It's healthier to lose over a longer period of time, than crash diet for a few weeks and knacker yourself.

I don't understand the +/- 1200. As before, the best/safest way to lose weight is to reduce calorie intake to 2000 calories. An average man requires roughly 2500 calories a day to maintain. So you'll be burning 500 calories per day through eating less than you need. You should do at least 45 minutes exercise as well.
If you go on a mega diet, and cut everything back to a minute calorie intake, then your body won't lose the fat as effectively, as it'll hold onto it. They say every 3000-3500 calories burned = 1lb fat.
This is how I did it anyways...I went from ~18 stone 35%+ body fat to ~13.5 stone 16% body fat...so it does work.

Different things work for different people. I found that controlling my fat intake worked for me. If I exercise and keep fat intake to less than 50g per day (the daily allowance is 70g) then weight falls off.

Yes, 1lb of weight = 3500 calories.
So to lose 1lb of weight you need to shave 3500 calories from your diet and the safest way is to do that at about 1lb a week, so remove 3500 calories from your diet every week.
Maintenance for men is around 2500 calories a day, so if you reduce that down to 2,000 you are "losing" 500 calories per day, or 3500 per week & you will lose 1lb a week, nice & gradual.
Combine that with exercise & the weight will come off.
Keep a good log of what you are eating, look at labels etc and remember stuff like when you are eating cereal to remember that you also have milk with it so count those calories (sounds simple but people forget)
I know my body quite well (after years of bodybuilding) & know that if I reduce my calories by 4-500 a day I will lose weight nice & gently.

All the advice is good. I would check out your calorie counting as your sensible day could easily be well over 1,200 calories. Homemade spaghetti bolognese in a decent man sized portion could easily be 1,000 calories on it's own.
Even salad dressing could be very calorific.
Decent exercise to get your metabolism up and a well managed food intake. I found I lost more weight following a Hay regime of eating which helped. Your mileage may vary.

To lose weight I drop to under 1000 cals and 35g fat.
Very difficult to do, but works. Throw in an exercise dvd 3 times a week and Fanny is your aunt.

I require about 3000 cals a day, my body about 2500, hence why I need to los two stone, lost a load when I changed jobs but have crept up, stress helped but I ate very healthy and some of the habits have stuck, I snack on Nuts (unsalted) and dried fruit, eat loads of fruit nd it helps, my pants get looser as the week goes on but I tend to drink alcohol and eat crap at the weekend !
