Using public transport - its hard!
Just been working away and thought I'd try and 'go green' and get the bus to Heathrow - especially considering the cost of the car parks there.
It was £42 return for an express coach Oxford to Heathrow for 2 and another few quid on local buses to get to Oxford.. Parking was £36 for 5 days. Guess what I used!
Meanwhile in Athens you could go anywhere in the area on the buses for 0.5 Euro and the Metro from the airport to centre of town was 5 Euros. Compare that to the massive cost of Heathrow Express for a much shorter journey or almost £2 to go 2 miles on a bus where I live.
Still I suposse the solution is to blame and tax the dirrrty motorist more whilst issuing nice dividends to shareholders of these private 'public transport' companies... Stinks I tell you!!!

Last weekend i/we used the public transport in Prague.
220 CZ Sheckels for a 3 day pass for anything that resembled public transport, we didnt get asked to prove our ticket for travel once ! The bus, tram, tube was clean and on time, they have all that running perfectly well.
It was about 40 CZ Sheckels to the £.

If I used pubic transport to get to work in the morning it would involve:
1/ A bus from a nearby street to the town centre of St Helens (land of the gods)
2/ A bus from St Helens (land of the gods) town centre to Warrington (I dont think these run anymore according to Merseytravel but when they did it took an hour and only ran every 30mins...
3/ A bus from Warrington bus station to Birchwood/Fernhead and a walk/taxi to the office.
Based on the buses still running, 3 bus rides each way, 2-2.5 hours each way and more expensive than if I took the scoob... In the scoob it's 13 miles. On the bus route, it's closer to 25...
Plus I'd have to share a bus with poor people , so it's a no goer for me....

it used to get quite hard whilst sitting on the hard seats when I was younger, but since the seats are now alot softer it doesn't get hard as much
