Question Guide price for a carpet

I realise there are many variables but I'm interested to get an idea on whether a price I've been quoted is good, bad or indifferent.

So, roughly, what would you expect to pay for:

A 'half-decent' quality carpet, supplied and fitted with 'half-decent' quality underlay' in a 22-24 square metre living room. There should be no complications to fitting as its a square room with concrete floors and we expect a carpet that's at least hard wearing enough for 5 years+ with two residents.

Roughly, what would you be expecting to spend here?

About £12 a square meter buys high street "premium" brand - so £240-250 and about £2.50 a square meter for underlay and about £1.50 a meter to fit it.

You could spend anything up to £200 a square meter, but then no-one would be allowed in your house

Remember if your room is 6x3.5 you will be paying for 6x4 carpet wise.

I'd be looking at aroung £20 per square metre all in - incl fitting, grippers etc

Cool, I was quoted £445 all in for what appears to be a good quality carpet. I didn't know if that was good/bad or otherwise but it seems to be in and around the area that you guys would expect to pay.

Scary to think it just take a 45p can of Irn Bru to totally ruin it as well

NEW RELATED QUESTION

We recently had the livingroom measured and a price quotes for a carpet fitted with underlay at £446.99. That carpet was an Autumn Leaves Sand with a 20/80 mix of wool/nylon.

We found a similar Autumn Leaves Sand carpet that is 100% Nylon and to my untrained eye visually identical and were quoted £385 fitted with underlay.

That's a difference of around £60. Is it worth paying £60 to have 20% wool mixed through though? The carpets look the same so if I was going to spend that extra money I'd want some assurance that there is a good reason for it (longevity for example). Can anyone clue me up?

Yes Kenny, AFAIK, a wool/nylon mix will be more durable (I would have thought that it would look better too).

Andy

(I'm not a carpet expert per se, but got to know a wee bit about them through assessing insurance claims).

LOL, we lifted the livingroom carpet last night Col and that stain was right through to the other side and into the underlay below. Still amazed you scooped it up and chowed down anyway
