Default Quick Q - IBAN & BIC??? Bank numbers

Does anyone know anything about these IBAN and BIC numbers associated with bank accounts?

Its a European thing so I understand it.

Anyway, theres a guy that wants to buy something off me via ebay and paypal can't be used on this occasion (my fault not his). And he want s to do a transfer to my bank. He's asking me for my IBAN and BIC numbers.

My question is, should I give them out? I mean is it safe to do that? Is that what they're for?

Cheers,
Rob

That's exactly what they're for. If you want someone to make a bank transfer, how can they do that without your account number?

You should find them on the top of your bank statement, by the way.

BTW - expect a scathingly sarcastic response from Snug Rhino...

Ok thanks mate.

I assumed that was what they were for but I'd never even noticed them on my statements before

An IBAN is a combined account/sort/swift code. Most bank charge now if you don't supply this on international/EUR payments.
It's as safe to give out as your account number.
