Question TomTom One V2 Users

Looking to purchase the European version of the V2 TomTom One and have a quick question that I'm hoping someone will be able to answer . . .

If I know the route that I would like to take (in this case its sort of Calais-Belgium-Luxembourg-Germany-Austria) that I have driven a number of times before with the wife map reading, can I programme the route into the TomTom ?
Although I've done the route a number of times, there are certain sections that get a bit complicated and I'd like the help of the TomTom if its possible.

Cheers

Bob

three options

1. Enter your destination and drive your own chosen route, Tomtom will try to correct you until your chosen route becomes the most efficient chose.

2. Enter waypoints, you can put via places in to ensure you go the way you want.

3. You can tell tomtom to avoid certain roads once it has mapped a route, avoid enough of them ensuring your route is the only option.

I have the One (series2) Europe and love it, also purchased whole of USA maps as I work there a lot.

Cheers for the reply...

I guess it will take a bit of time plotting my route into the TomTom then.
Is there the option to save the route for future trips and also is it possible to have it reverse the route for the return journey?

Thanks,

Bob

Ive got a Navman with European mapping and this is my main gripe with it. Its preferred route, whether I set it for quickest or shortest distance, is very rarely the route I want to take, so I have to faff about setting loads of way-points along the way.
I was hoping to get rid of it and change to a TomTom, but as I have never used any other type of GPS, Im not sure if it will be any better.
From Jaybirds reply, it sounds as if the TomTom works in pretty much the same manner as my Navman so there is little point changing.

My argument would be "why do you want to go your own route?" Unless you want to visit specific places (use the "via" function) then let it send you the best way. My mother-in-law insists on me setting up her TomTom to bring her to our house "the way she knows" which is some 6 miles longer than the quickest way. Why does she need to go the way she knows when the TomTom will tell her where to go anyway?

Sorry, minor personal rant over

Reason being is that although it may not be the shortest route, it is a fast route and it works out perfect for me in several ways. That it enables me to fill the tank up with some of the cheapest fuel in Europe which I find is in Luxembourg is one of them, plus the "rest stops" and "good eating" places all along the route. I may save a few miles on a different route but I doubt it would be quicker and/or as nice a drive, which, when doing a 1000mile journey, is important to me.

But if it does suggest different routes I may try them out at some point.

Just because a Sat Nav system decides to send you via a certain route does NOT mean it is the "best Way" as lots of people have found out

Exactly. My regular run through France has dozens of alternatives, but the route my sat-nav chooses (which may be physically the shortest) is not anywhere near the "best" as far as I am concerned. Its idea of the "fastest" route although a higher percentage of motorway type roads, is far from being any faster as it doesnt take into account traffic levels.

Cheers,

Seriously considering the tomtom one sat nav unit, just wonder if the latest units use TOMTOM version 6 or are they still using the original version 5 ??
any other comments on this particular model compared to some off the other more expensive tt models ??
