I used to get that train to Carlisle all the time - rammed on a Friday with people travelling to the Lakes or Scotland for the weekend. Fingers crossed

I hope everyone is OK. People are sending pics from their mobiles to the Beeb!

I would imagine this might cause some challenges to the roll out of the pendolino trains.

BBC employee on the train is suggesting the train hit something on the track.

Early reports suggest 180 people on the train, and there are quotes saying the stretch of line was capable of 95mph

95mph + a train rolling down the embankment doesn't sound very good.

Hope everyone has made it off ok.

1 fatality, 5 seriously injured, 60 walking wounded, 120 passengers in total.

Investigation to the cause focussed on a set of points atm
