Default how do you decide on a reputable diamond dealer?

i know what cut/clarity/colour/carat/certification i want, but need to sort out the ring

is it just a case of finding a nice style ring and then sorting out the price for the rock?

Where in the country are you?

The Jewelery quater in Birmingham has some useful companies

Bicknells is one and J.E.Marlow are the others - they can both buy in certified diamonds if they don't have the exact one in stock, both very good for ring designs to and can set your diamond in a couple of hours usually.

Cheers

We ended up going into a jewellers (a proper one that designs and makes stuff on site) and the guy had a number of sizes and quality of diamonds in the shop. We inspected the diamonds individually and settled on one (pic of it in chocolates thread) that we both really liked. I could have probably got a similar spec diamond online cheaper but there would be less certainty and to be honest this was the best shopping experience I've ever had such was the level of care and professionalism

we'll want to go into a jewellers and we live near hatton garden, but there are so many jewellers there - how do you know you're looking at a good one?

Choose your rock first, ring type and setting depend heavily on the shape of the diamond your choosing, if your buying a top quailty diamond say D / E colour and IF or VVS1 clarity then you want a setting so the light can pass through the underside of the diamond to enhance its fire and sparkle
