Had my Pioneer about 2 weeks, absloutely stunning. £1399 from Currys, if you buy online go to hotdealsuk first and get the code for the 5% discount, gets it down to £1329 inc delivery.

I would get this Hitachi. It's got better High Def resolution and is a bloody bargain. Have to admit, I like the look of the Pioneer more, maybe you could wait for the 1920x1080 screen res. Like this Sony:

It's not all about resolution, the processing is just as important.....
Can't believe how quickly the prices are coming down - had mine for about 18 months and it was £2.5k and that was the cheapest around at the time.

Saw the Panasonic Viera in Currys (HD model) for £999 - Paid £2399 18 months ago for the non-HD model.
Still better than anything else I reckon (apart from Pioneer)
That Pioneer is loike my old model Panasonic though - not really HD.

Make sure you get a 5yr warranty with any flat panel TV. John Lewis include one as standard and they will price-match any store (not just net based) with them in stock for immediate delivery.
I've demo'd the Pioneer 1080 panel, and TBH it would take a fussy-@r$ed bugger to be able to justify the £6k price-tag. Of course, the prices will fall as more 1080 sets arrive, but at the moment, the amount of 1080 material and the quality of 720 (768) plasma's being so good makes it unnecessarily extravagent to me.
A quality upscaling SD DVD player through HDMI looks superb on my Pany PX60, and I'm sure when I can get a multi-region combo HDDVD/BD player they will look awesome too. I won't pay for Sky, and it will be many years before Freeview transmits a reasonable amount of HD programming, so true 1080p sets are really only for the **** AV pedants who simply must have the best. IMHO
Handy

panasonic
best tv i've had
i bought it because a tv engineer told that , unless you buy exclusive gear costing thousands, its very hard to beat the quality of panasonic!!
and from my experiance it seems to be right

Another vote for Panasonic, My Viera has been on the wall for about 2 years now and Ive never regretted it one bit. for its age I still aint seen much int he way that beats it for quality IMO.

As per above, I'd recommend the 427XD (without the zero!) - you'll get two HDMI ports - one of which can process 1080p information.
Cracking screen and - IMHO far nicer cosmetically than the Panasonics (unless you opt for one of the business-aimed display-only models which you'll need cards in the back for your HDMI, Scart, Component etc.
Digital Direct | Widescreen TV, DVD, Hi-Fi, Camcorders, Home Cinema, HD Ready have the 427XD for a very good price usually. (£1239.01 at the moment)
Oh and I'm not even going to comment on the picture quality of these TVs when compared to one another. In my opinion the Pioneer provides a stunning picture but it's VERY subjective: a lovely picture to one person can look awful to another. People who claim that one is better than another shouldn't be paid attention to! Look for yourself and make your decision based on what you prefer!

Pioneer PDP-5000EX is where its at; One of the first of its kind (1080lines), suberb picture.
Been out a while now, so prices have dropped considerably: Almost £2000 cheaper at some sources, still at £4500 its still pricey. But for good reason
