Default Shop not refunding item bought 3 days ago with a receipt.

Anyone know the legal standpoint on this?
Wife bought a top from SportsWorld 3 days ago for our 10 year old daughter, who didn't like the design, never wore it & so wife decided to get a refund.
Took it back, they refused to refund & would only offer vouchers.

Way I understand it, is that shops have a legal requirement to refund items when presented with a receipt, esp within 28 days of purchase.

Perhaps I am wrong and each store has different policy, but this just sounded wrong to me, so before I call the manager & give them hell over it just thought I would see if anyone knows about this ?

You only have a right to a refund if the goods purchased are faulty.

Otherwise shop may correctly offer exchange or credit.

They are under no obligation to give a refund just because you don't like it. Take the vouchers. Or take your daughter and let her choose one she likes

If you change your mind about an item you have no rights at all. Most shops will offer a concessionary refund which might be in vouchers, but they can refuse to do a refund.

I think you have entered the parenting phase which states "you cannot buy girls clothes without their prior approval". This lasts from about 9 - 19 years old by which time they are so broke that they will take anything offered d

Meant to add. And at 19 they will be shuffling through mum's old clothes as there may be something that is so old it is back in fashion

Interesting place Scoobynet.

A thread starts about returning a T-Shirt and ends with dressing hamsters

Two kids & two cats here.

No matter how many times I explain it to them, in either financial or aggravation terms, the kids still can't comprehend why I love my cats more

Have to say if I find shop assistants or other 'customer service' staff are rude or abrupt I just either ask for their names if it isn't stuck on their clothing, then ask for the address of head office, then to speak to their manager. This usually results in a quick capitulation and them coming forward with what I require of them- even if I'm in the wrong. Of course you must remain polite and smiling throughout.....

Obviously in the case of smaller enterprises there's no point complaining to what's likely to be a one man band type of operation with no corporate bosses to beat them down. So revenge is the best way to gain satisfaction. Use your imagination.

Seems to me that if you are rejecting it only because the design is not right, then the shop is in the right. I find that a polite approach in the first place will often bring the right result though, depending on the assistant of course.

If it was bought at Sports World, it's not going to be that much anyway. Is anything sold over a fiver in there?

I'm sure it's been said before, take her with you! I have learnt from that mistake with a (nearly) 8-year-old.
