High Definition DVD's
Has anyone bought any films in this format & are they much of an improvement over your standard dvd?
The price of these HD films goes from £15 - £20 which makes me think they must be better than ordinary dvd's.
I've got a HD TV & an upscaling HD DVD Player but to be honest my standard DVD's look pretty average when played on the above........ Are these HD Films worth a look?
Thanks for any comments

Depending on the size of your TV, the difference can be like night and day. On a 32" set you need to be really close to the screen to see any difference, 42" and above and its really noticable. I had a Toshiba HD-E1 HD-DVD player which cost a lot of money just before christmas.

You need either,
A Toshiba HD-E1 or XE1, £400ish for the E1, around £600 for the XE1.
Xbox360 HD-DVD add on, around £130.
To add the mix, there is also blu-ray. Movies cost the same, but the players start at around £700 for a standalone unit, or £500 for the PS3.

Well actually they do cost more to make, media costs, HD camera's, production equipment etc...........
Standard DVD's on my Pioneer plasma look stunning, I assume there must be an improvement with an HD/Blueray DVD?
The Toshiba HD DVD player at £350 looks good value, however most will wait for the next gen machines that will play HD DVD and Blueray discs.

HD cameras? How can they show 10 year old + films on Sky movies HD then? Were these filmed in HD? how does this work? I thought it was just broadcast / recorded at a higher resolution.

If the film was made on, er , film then it contains a lot more information than the ordinary DVD does. Making a high-definition master of it from the original film gives something that can then be made into an HD-DVD or a Blu-Ray disk, or broadcast in HD.

Anyone who wants a taster of what an HD film (720p) looks like, try this:

LG have/will be releasing a dual format player this year in the USA, that will play both HD-DVD, Blu-RAY and standard DVD movies. And then hopefully in europe. Not cheap at $1,199!
