Hi there,
I’m having to sell my Rolex GMT II and Tudor Submariner as I’ve developed an allergy to the SST on the underside of my wrist.
Have been looking a various replacement options and have narrowed down my choices to a Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Chronograph (model 2812.50.37) (first choice) or maybe a Omega Planet Ocean (42mm 2901.50.37).
For those in the know are there any pro/cons or issues that I should be aware that might influence the decision
Also how would you rate the above against the IWC Spitfire Chronograph.
Cheers

Thanks for the reply, the 45mm is too big for my wrist, I've tried it and it just looks silly on me, even the dealer agreed.
I'm not sure about modern Rolex on Nato straps, it would probably look ok on the Tudor sub, but somehow I'm not sure about the GMT. I guess I could give it a try before selling, its a small outlay to stop a huge depreciation loss.
Cheers

The Tudor would look good on a NATO strap, I have an 1610 myself that I use on both the NATO strap and the bracelet it came with and it looks great on both.
If you are considering a Planet Ocean, then push for a discount of you must have one new or think about buying used but unworn. The PO depreciates massively, worse than many other Omegas.
I'd go for the IWC but either a GST Titanium or Ingenieur chrono- although that might be too big for your wrist.

I'm not a fan of the latest updates to the Spitfire model.

Give it a go - GMTII can look great on NATO/leather etc straps.

Do you want a diver's watch or a pilot's watch? Or just a nice watch?
For me, the only Omega I really want is the Speedmaster Professional - the moon watch. I like the Speedmaster Reduced too, I like lots of Omegas really, but the moon watch has something a bit extra, namely extreme reliability and a good story.
For a flash diver's watch, I'd be looking at a Panerai Luminor. Very chunky though, so might not suit. For a diver's to dive in, I'd probably go for a Sinn... I have a high opinion of their technical quality and the Sinn U2 for around £1k is a serious underwater watch. Sinns are not high bling watches though... maybe not a Rolex replacement.
It really depends what you like, and I like technical/military watches so my views are biased that way.
E2A - a technical limited edition watch has the advantage of better or occasionally even no depreciation. Just a hobby horse. The Aqua Terra is a nice watch.

I find th emodern Omegas too big. They tend not to offer a smaller size watch these days.
The Aqua terra is a lovely watch. one of the best value Omegas. I am hoping to buy a hydronaut (Tudor) tomorrow. Black face and almost mint. not going to pay more than £350.00
panerai are a Joke for diving !! its a designer watch these days.
Check out a older Rolex on a nice nato, this will be the next trend. I do know of a very very nice "European" crono for sale. Leather strap and dark geen face. good condition etc. but its near a grand.

Hence the Sinn recommendation.
Older Datejusts and the like do seem to be heading upwards. I've been after a 1970 Oyster Perpetual for a while

I saw a nice Sinn on Ebay the other day (completely trusted dealer who's been on Ebay 11 years, perfect f/back)....found it... eBay.co.uk: 100% Original Sinn S/S Chronograph W/Box & Paper NR (item 120078971417 end time 31-Jan-07 06:11:08 GMT)
I haven't been into watches for a couple of years now and only kept a couple but i think i'm going to get a vintage Datejust soon, just keeping my eye out for the right colour/finish combo.

My GMTII (all-black bezel, s/s) spends half its life on a black NATO strap. I prefer it understated that way. (I'm one of the 1% of owners who DIDN'T buy a Rolex to impress everyone else). I don't know what a Pepsi bezel would look like.

So everybody else who buys a Rolex is a tosser.......apart from you right?

Agreed, I bought my 42mm PO a couple of weeks ago, they (Goldsmiths) discounted it by £300 after a small amount of negotiation

Does "OW" means Ollech & Wais here? Brilliant value watches, but I assumed a bit too cheap for the opening poster, given the options mentioned. They are fab though.

Thanks for the replies all
Neither of the watches are used as dive watches, I don't dive. The tudor was an impulse buy back in the early 90's the rolex I bought because I liked it, I was planning on keeping it for life, and the GMT function is useful to me.
For those of you that have them on Nato bands where did you purchase the bands from ? Have you all got them on the std Nato colours ? and is the
20mm size required ?
Unfortunately mine is not an all black bezzel (fortunately neither is it a pepsi) its a black and red, so will have to see what it looks like. I already have a rubber oyster style strap which is OK...ish, but isn't the best quality.
Cheers

20mm strap is what's on my Sub, I'd imagine yours will be the same. I think your GMT will look great on a black or grey/black 'Bond' NATO strap, if not it will only cost you a tenner or so to find out.
This place has some of the best quality NATO straps I've seen
NATO, James Bond, Regimental, Leather Strap, DiverTec, Zulu, Maratac From Gnomon Watches (there are also instructions on how to fit it on here)
The one from here wasn't quite as good

If you want a place where you can sell your existing watches and get a planet ocean try here:-
:: Index
Great forum, friendly members and so far the deals I have done in the sales section have been nothing other than silky smooth.
Their is a 42mm aqua terra for sale in the sale section at the moment. If SS is causing issues with your skin have you considered a Ti speedmaster or a seamaster chrono. Ti is non allergenic so you should not exeprience any skin irritation at all.
Loads of friendly people over their who will be more than happy tooffer advice and some real bargins to be had for second hand watches, many of which are in 95% plus condition with huge savings.
Since finding the site last year I can honestly say I will never be handing over my hard earned to some Omega, rolex etc dealer.
Good luck
Paul

OPC, Thanks
Gingerboy thanks for the link, that may com in useful later if I do want to sell
All
How expensive is it to get the bezzel changed on the GMT. If I am going to keep it on a NATO it needs a service and I was wondering if I could get a black bezzel at the same time, anyone in the know ?

I don't know as I got mine changed when I bought it (s/h). But my wife just smashed the glass on her little ladies' model, we took it in for a quote (they said we'd have to have a general service as fragments could have entered the mechanism) and they quoted us... €20 more than the service cost! I'd expected a lot more than that!

No, but the standard Mk XVI Pilot's watch is nice. Not too sure about the font used for the digits, but the black date window is a nice touch (my Mk XV has a white one).
I also really like the double chrono in satin black, but I tried one on and it's really thick.
