Default Best city to visit in the UK except London

I'm visiting the UK for the first time in a long time soon with my GF.
England is my home but I'm pretty much a stranger now and need some advice/help.
I know London pretty well, also the lake district. Other than that I'm just about ignorant of what the Uk has to offer.
I'm very much into culture, scenery, architechture, restaurants, pubs, night life etc. anything goes basically. London I've done to death! and lived there too.
I've got limited time so which do you believe is the best city/town to give a couple of days, or more, to?

Thanks for any advice.

Cool.

Edinburgh every time.

If you're down South then Bristol's not bad.

Stratford-upon-Avon is very pretty, Brighton is ace, as is Newcastle & Dublin. Wasn't overly impressed with Glasgow, but I may have a biased view as I was once stranded there with no wallet and no money.

Bath, Oxford, or York if you have the GF in tow, unless she's fairly broad minded then Brighton-great nightlife but a fair degree of unsavoury peeps about.

Edinburgh - Stunningly beautiful, full of history, unique setting, great pubs and restaurants, fit totty.

Bristol - Plenty of totty, some amazing sights (Clifton Suspension Bridge, the Avon Gorge, views of the Severn Bridge and Brecons in the right place), close to Welsh mountains (if you like that sort of thing), great pubs and clubs, easy to get to.

For some reason a place has to be hilly for me to like it - Gives a place character.

I do love the way this is the first line of the opening post and is then followed by recommendations of places with "plenty of totty"

I would say that if you have limited time as you've said, then Bath, Bristol and Oxford can all be done in a couple of days, well, the nice bits anyway. And you could throw in a Stone Henge visit/nap in between

Yup, that Norman Cook is a right dodgy ****** Seriously though, Brighton is pretty cool, especially the pavillion.

I agree that Bath is pretty good as well. What about Cambridge or Oxford? Canterbury is pretty good too.

Another vote for Dublin as well.

Really depends on what you're wanting to see and do, I guess.

Manchester because if you visited there before the IRA bomb then you won't recognise it now!

Newcastle is great but I'm biased. If I wanted to visit somewhere else I would probably pick Edinburgh.

At all costs though make sure that you avoid Sunderland.
