Question

OK, after spending way too much cash on an amp and speakers this weekend I also decided to get a better quality scart cable to connect my DVD to the telly with.
Question is, after parting with £50 for a shiny blue QED 24 karat scart cable which wins sexiest cable of year, should I notice a huge increase in quality to that of a £1.99 argos special?
Now I would expect the answer to be a unquestionable 'Yes' but hypotheticaly speaking, if someone was not to notice a difference what should I tell them to check.
Should their telly or DVD need to be told to use RGB or something. Assume the telly has 3 scarts and the DVD (Pioneer717) has two.

Question

If your TV / DVD can handle RGB try setting both to that.

Might be that your dvd is set to output composite video, hence thats what your TV is picking up. I've set my DVD to output in S-Video which I think give the best picture quality.

Give that a go.

Check the scart socket you are using on the TV is RGB compatable, usually only scart 1 is RGB compliant. Do not route the signal through any other equipment eg, video or sky.

For video quality the following are in order worse first.
1, Composite
2, S-video
3, RGB
4, Component. (best)

Cheapo scarts pick up nasty inducted signals and unwanted noise but if yours was a short lead away from mains cables etc don't expect to see a massive improvement with the new QED lead.
