Binge Drinking - Water ??!
I have a normal(ish) amount of water during the day (in tea and coffee etc) but every night after about 7pm I binge drink on water
I know you should drink x amount of litres a day, but does it matter whether its over 12 hours, or two hours for example
I can quite easily drink about 5 pints in the space of a couple of hours, and pee it all out before I go to bed - is this doing me any good / harm ?
Thanks

All this "you must drink 3 litres a day"....who made that up?
Bottled water companies perhaps?
I know loads of people who only drink tea and coffee, and maybe an orange juice, and they appear to be perfectly heathly people.
My nan bless her, is 88, I bet she has not consumed 3 litres a day, ever!

The best way to judge if you're drinking enough fluids is to take a pi$$. If it's yellow and stinks then you are not drinking anywhere near enough, you're also not doing your kidneys much good. If it's running clear and you can't smell it without getting close, then you're drinking enough.
Easy really.

Around 4 litres a day is good. Preferably as water, not tea or coffee which are diuretics. It may be that the tea and coffee you are having during the day is dehydrating you by the evening.
Urine test for diabetes is also a good precautionary measure.
As for who said drink a lot of water a day - your blood chemistry and hematology is much healthier when you are well hydrated. Look at someones red blood cells when they have not been drinking enough - it is surprising they don't all stick together as they look like fuzzy felt.
Also as someone said above things like diverticulitis are much less likely if you are well hydrated. I believe an economist in the US did a study into this and found correlations between drinking water and better health - so not just old (or in this nouveau) wives tales.

There isnt enough caffeine in a normal cup of tea or coffee to have a diuretic effect, according to something I read on the web recently (BBC I think)...
I would get to the docs and just have a chat with them but maybe do a bit of research on the web first...
I drink 4 litres of water ish a day and a few teas and coffees and my weewee smells of petrol.

Agree with some above - get tested for Diabetes (although that would normally give you a thirst all the time.
You may be taking in too much salt with your evening meal? Do you eat a lot of ready meals/carry outs?
I'll usually drink a couple of pints of water over the course of the evening.
