Which Airline(s) to Seattle?
I'm sure some people on here will have been to Seattle due to working in IT. I'm going in March, so I'm looking for ideas and/or recommendations on flights and airlines to use.
I would have gone KLM/Northwest via Amsterdam, but the outbound transfer is over 5 hours, so looking at alternatives.
Airport wise, I can do Humberside, Leeds and Manchester without any major problems and East Mids at a push. Heathrow will require an internal flight, but that's not really a problem either.
Happy to do one change in the states, but would rather avoid anymore.
I know that Virgin will pick you up and drop you off etc. from your house, and I'm pretty sure another airline will do that from Manchester, but can't find details atm? (that would be very useful, and save having to leave the car)
Cheers in advance.

Will be able to go Business Class, so any internal US will normally be upgraded to 1st. (did 1st on Alaska airlines last year, but it wasn't that great)

I have 4 BA business class flights in the next 7 weeks to the US.
Am hoping that if it happens and I am caught out by strike while out there and not stuck in the uk.
Then there is the generous miles compensation for J/F passengers too....
If you do book it, try and get on the upper deck.
the BA0049 from LHR daily at 14:05 is a 747... there is another flight 3 days a week at 18:55 (777 not a 747)
Seat 62K is the one you want

BA?!?
I wouldn't touch them at the moment. Not if you want to be sure of reaching your destination.

go to seattle airport website and look at flight arrivals basically you could route thru anywhere you like YVR, YMX,CHI, SDY,LAX, YOU COULD EVEN PLAN YOUR CRAFTY STOPOVER SOMEWHERE NICE
you could even go the pacific way and stop in hkg and mel but youd be dead by th time you got there.
but i think id go via CPH or AMS myself

Sad as it maybe, I've never been on a 747, so I may take an extra day in Seattle to tick that box.
Regarding the above mentioned seat, do I need to look for your name scratched into it?
Also avoids the alternative from MAN to Chicago and onwards via United Airlines, which I doubt will be as comfortable.

If im in club that is my seat! No name scratched in , and I don't weigh enough for there to be an *** groove
64A/K are the exit seats, and 64K is also good- and very private.
If you are really lucky you may get one of the aircraft with the New club cabin (Introducing new Club World ), but only a couple have been done as yet.
If you take the 777 flight, then 15A/K is the one I prefer, as you get extra legroom and as with the upper deck ones above, you don't have to step over someone to get out.
Make sure you book a massage at the spa at the LHR lounge too.
As for the alternative, any connection through the US is a pain in the ***- no arguments there! Direct flight makes much more sense

The worst I ever had was flying from Gatwick to San Diego, via.... Minniapolis St Pauls . What was worse was the fact that the meetings in SD were cancelled but too late to change the flights, so the next morning I had to take a further 5 hour flight south from SD to my next stop - Austin Texas. Man, that was a marathon I wouldn't want to repeat. The US is a BIG place....

Gone KLM/Northwest in the end. Main reason was the 4 hour stop over at Heathrow on the return leg - last place I want to be after an overnight is sat in an airport for hours on end.
So flying out of Manchester on Sunday morning to AMS, and returning to Leeds Bradford the following Friday. This avoids the 6 in the morning flight out of LBR and 4 hour wait in AMS on the outbound, Sunday morning.
Flew with Northwest in December and I didn't have any complaints.
So still no 747 box tick
Thanks for the info though - will bear in mind if it happens again.
