I'm thinking of reducing my exposure to shares and increasing cash holdings.
Can you convert part of the stocks and shares components from previous years' Maxi ISAs into cash ISAs without losing the tax benefits?

Thanks, didn't think you could but I know it has been proposed. Would probably cost the bloated one in No.11 too much.
I think I'll start hunting for inexpensive Japan Index Trackers that can go under ISA wrappers if such things exist. I'm wondering about Gold on the next downswing. I'm feeling that it is hard to continue to be optimistic about the UK/US equity markets for much longer.

Cash looks like an increasingly safe bet with interest rates now firmly on the increase worldwide. Regular instant access accounts such as ICICI are paying 5.65% AER already, and it wont be long before they top 6%
Developing countries such as China, India and Russia will surely continue to provide the best returns for slightly higher risk investments.
