Default Craft drill for wifey?

Hi everyone, advice welcomed!

Wifey wants to start making jewellery & this includes drilling tiny holes though precious stones to make necklaces etc. I'm having trouble finding something for her, although she has a small vice already, the drill needs also to be fixed so that she can make perfect holes without injuring herself. The drill bits could be as small as 0.5mm. Does anyone know what we need? (B&Q had nothing suitable).

Dremel do (or at least used to) do a press drill stand for their dremel drill. OK dremel aint cheap, but like all good kit you get what you pay for.

My rents have the drill press and its a good 15 years old.

Can get a 1mm in my Pillar Drill easy enough, not got anything smaller these days, but that's what I used to use when I was making jewellery before.

Thanks everyone!

Jasey's link had this stuff:
proxxon power tools
Looks to be just the job!

Dremel was my first option, but checking their website, they didn't seem to have anything suitable.

I'd also advise looking for a drill with a speed controller, often sold seperately, as tiny drills running at 25,000 rpm (which craft type drills run up to, ) can very easily lead to burning and damage to pieces being worked on and drill bits.

Also, invest in some TOP quality drill bits, such as those sold for drilling holes in industrial circuit boards.

I have a Dremel and it's pretty good, has a speed changer on it, running from slow to top speed, and I've laso a stand for it, but the stand was dearer than the drill

I drill brass, alloy, nickel-silver, and cast white-metal.

Thanks Alcazar

We'll bear that in mind.

For anyone interested, I found the Dremel website:
