Default Chips Away

I need some recommendations!!! Has anyone ever used these guys for alloy wheel repairs?

I need a couple of wheels refurbing - well ok, 4, and remember seeing that ChipsAway offer a repair service. I've never heard of anyone using them, and wondered what the wheels came out like? And also what kind of price I would be looking at..

Do they need just repainting or are they damaged? I was under the impression Chips Away repaired stone chips on cars and wasn't aware they did alloys too. I would be inclined to use a local refurbisher with a good reputation.

i bought a car which had curbed alloys, the dealer said they'd refurb them before i picked it up and it turned out they used 1 of these types 9not sure if it was CA or some1 else).
The wheels looked spot on until you felt them, they were rough as jade goody (no laquer) and the repairs were filler so if i had to have a tyre replaced the filler would come off

They are by the Bucks Free Press offices...they want £65+VAT per wheel - and as the car is going in the next 8 weeks or so I'm being a tight cow and looking for something cheap..

but I take on board what has been said about dodgy repairs so might give them a tinkle in the morning

Yep, get 'em powder coated, not just repaired. Will look much better IMHO.

You have to be careful though that the powder coater does allow because they have to baked at a lower heat so I heard. If not they crack the alloy

I thought the powder coating was all about magnetising the wheel, positive and negative etc.

anyway, that is about right for a wheel, done properly £65. Just steer clear off The Car Clinic, as we all know what they do with stuff

used chipsaway (local guy is right around the corner from palmer's house ), it was ok for the paintwork, but didnt last, so who knows what their wheel work is like.

That's true about powder coating I know you can get alloy and wheels done though but it has to be done by an alloy specialist and not baked in the normal oven.

After seeing the state of what car clinic did to your wheels Swiss I wouldn't let them loose with a wagon wheel

I think the easiest way to get them done is to get the local wicked wheels guy out to it, he is or was based in High Wycombe because I used to see his van parked up near my garage.

too true paul.
went into them, came out looking like this

shocking work....

wicked wheels is next to the bucks free press....
they do mobile, but I think in any case like this, getting them done in premises is always better than mobile units...IMHO

I have erm... slightly* scuffed all four wheels on the rims... and the car is being exchanged in about 4 weeks..

* I think some of the damage is pretty bad and may need some major refurrbing..

This is the first car I have damaged the wheels on - typical - it had to be the one which is being swapped

I'll post some pics up over the weekend - I'll have to clean the bleddy wheels properly first so I can have a proper look at the damage
