TomTom One, Is it worth the Money ?
I have read a few reviews, but undecided, They say the sound quality is poor compared to the other Tomtom range, Battery life also.
Who on here has one & how do you find it ??
Is it worth paying the extra & getting the Europe version or being a skinflint & just the Uk & then copying someone elses Europe Maps Etc ??
How much did you pay & where from
Thanks V Much

I've got the TomTom One, and get on very well with it. I haven't heard any of the other models, but find the sound quality to be spot on, very loud if required so I can still hear the commands on the motorway with the stereo on, or quiet if just pottering about town.
Battery life has never been an issue either, longest journey has been about 4 hours, and the battery was fine. You get a car charger with it so you can have it plugged in while you're on the road.
For £159.99, I can't fault it at all.

I nearly bought one of these yesterday (a tomtom1 slimline) they were £189.99 for the europeon one (same price as the uk version) that was in Halfrauds.
They look the part, however i was told they cannot be updated to warn you of speedcameras, is this true or is it a big porky pie
It put me off a little so i left somewhat deflated and empty handed

Its true in a sense... you may need to erase sum other poi's form the memory so you can fit the gps speed cameras on. but there will be so many poi's that you wont use anyway

I've resisted buying a sat nav unit 'cos 99% of my driving is work/Sainsburys/B&Q/friends & family, but now I'm about to start house hunting I thought it might be useful. Is the Tomtom One 'the one' or are any others worth a look (other Tomtoms and other makes). Save me a trawl on t'net. Cheers.

Bought one last summer before setting off for a drive across France to a city I'd never been to before and thought it was the mutts nuts. I got to my destination a lot less stressed than usual when taking a trip into unchartered waters (so to speak). I also downloaded an extra map and databases for speed cameras. All I had to do was use the software that came with it to delete the other non-english voices I would never use so as to free up room for the new map and speed camera databases (these are very small). Not sure how you'd go about copying someone else's maps onto your SD card as they need to be activated before use (a simple process). Recently I lent my TT One to a work colleague as he needed to make a trip into the unkown as well...he came back with it and 2 days later went out and bought his own. Nuff said. As for the battery life, mine is always plugged into the cigarette lighter so I have no complaints or issues with it. The only thing that I don't like about it is that once I've set the time, it doesn't keep it once the unit has been unplugged...only a small gripe though. Otherwise, it's an outstanding product for the price!
Edited: Got mine from Amazon.fr for about 180 quid with the map of France on it. I also bought the map of the Alps region as well which has served me just great but I'm thinking of buying the whole of Europe map so I can find my way to the Nurburgring

I Have the tomtom Europe V2 and I have speed cameras on there and didn't have to delete any POI..
I have found it great and my mate with a 710 prefers my V2 as it is less chunky...

Ive got a 700 at the minute which was the top of the range a year ago,but since then the 10 series has arrived, with the 910 being the top of the class now.. IIRC its around £350 for that unit now which id say is a bloody good price for the features it has.. Check the tom tom site for the fuul spec as i cant be assed to go looking myself..
Ill be selling my 700 soon in favour of the 910

quite impressed with my "one"
bought it recently from currys for 144 delivered (found a 10% off code on the net but have no idea what it was)
i would say just download the maps off the internet. i think you will have to buy a sd memory card which is about 8 quid.
if you know where to look you can download them for free.
the speed camera thing works quite well too

I bought a TT ONE - as everyone else says, they are £159 all over the place!!
I bought a NavMan F20 on Xmas Eve from Argos for £129 - didn't want to follow the crowd who bought TT ...... but it was faulty (didn't even power up!)
So, back it went and the TT ONE was purchased - I am VERY HAPPY with it
It is very loud if need be - the volume depends upon speed ... faster you go the louder the voice
