Default Alternative to British Gas

For a while now I have put up with BG upping prices and I read today that they are introducing a £5 "fine" for people who don't pay by 28 days. Its not the fine that bothers me, its their money grabbing attitude.
Plus the fact that 6 months ago I paid my gas bill and for the last 6 months they have been sending me letters & calling me up insisting that I havn't paid it. Despite the fact I have a payment authorisation code (given by them when I paid it) & even sent them my credit card statement showing the payment to them !!

What are the alternatives? Or should I go onto one of those energy comparision sites ?

Cheers,

R.
