Speed Limiters on light Commercials
Hello All.
What a start to a new year. EU law starting 01/01/07 means I had to have my truck electronically neutered today!!
Yes, 1/2 an hour in an Iveco Truck Centre means from now on 56mph (90km/h) maximum in my 7.5 tonner.
Anything heavier than a standard Sprinter / Transit with a Euro 4 engine or newer has to be limited in this way.
I think it is overkill on the part of the Eurocrats. Surely 62mph (100km/h) is more suitable for the light commercials? This would make the traffic flow more freely and not trap them in with the heavy vehicles that have had limiters for years now.
I just feel sorry for all the people who are now going to get stuck behind all 7.5 tonners while they take 10 minutes to pass a 44 tonne artic on a dual carriageway.
This affect anyone else on here?????

Our Iveco 7.5tonner was already restricted to 56mph when it was new...6months ago
Our old Bedford TL 7.5 tonner with the trusty 6litres and 6 cylinders of turbocharged Perkins could do a fraction over 80mph before hitting the engine rpm govenor, no seatbelts, no ABS,, no exhaust brake and very sensitive drum brakes on the front
Poor thing was scrapped - due to health and safety bull crap and the cab being a touch rusty making the ***** get all picky come plating time. Chassis was A1 and engine had cleaner oil than My scooby

Like curtainsider says, they should have made them slightly quicker than the heavy stuff,as the inside lane is congested enough with trucks.
P.s welcome to the 56 mph club.!!

For the cost of one 7.5 tonner stuck at 55mph and employing one english driver.
You could get 2 transits, 2 Polish drivers and get the job done nearly as cheap and even faster

Just need to get the flat bed Transits doing 60 mph out of the overtaking lane now, and all the other vans that get in the way, and pretty much anything else that is in MY lane doin less than 90.

All our new fire appliances are now limited.
Nothing more frustrating turning out to a 'persons reported' or an RTA and having learners in their l ltr Micra overtaking you en route.

Soon all sprinter/transit sized vans will have tacho's fitted, hopefully that means I'll have to do less work
120mph Sprinter You'll not get one of them from Ryder truck and van. Company I work for leases our vans off them, and they're all restricted to roughly 78mph via the ECU.

Thats the tip of the iceberg!
The management feel we should no longer run to the appliances when the turnout tones go (H+S) and there are some brigades out there that are having their opperational wagons turning out to opperating fire alarms with no blue lights or sirens!! The reason for this? .....now this comes from the top remember!! "most people who die in fires die before we are on scene anyway. Our main objective should be to educate people not to have fires"
The lunatics are running the asylum!
Sorry for the OT rant

So tomorrow when I hire my 7.5 ton lorry for a house move if it still does 70 I can drive it at 70 or has the highway code been amended to reduce the maximum permissible speeds for these things.
