Ooobeedoo,
Don't bother with Curry's!

Go to Asda-42" Plasma HD ready £799-you'll get better service and save £200 to boot!
Cheers,
Elmer

I'm no expert but every time i see a Plasma that blows me away 90% of the time its a Panny. I'd be reluctant to buy anything else.

Should have bought a Pany before Xmas though like I did, and got the free 5yr warranty

The best option now is to get your local John Lewis to price-match Curry's and get their standard 5yr warranty

DD/DTS 7.1 from a paltry £250 Pioneer VSX811 Does a great job despite its meagre price.

The other stuff includes 20yo Cyrus II/PSX/DAD7 for stereo music, a combo I've not heard bettered for less than £8k in all my years as a hi-fi snob.

Upgrading the 656A and replacing the S-VHS with a Sony 860 soon.

That Panny Plasma seems not to be able to resolve almost HALF the horizontal res of a HD signal as I understand it? Its 1027x768 esolution doesnt come close to HD's is 1920H x 1080V [like my liccle laptop]. Wouldnt he be better orf going for sometyhing that doesnt chuck most of the HD detail aways as starters? Also, do plasmas 'do' non-smeary blacks by now?

1080p PDP's are only just hitting the streets, and are IRO £6k. I viewed the Pany next to a myriad of true 1080 LCD's similar to your lappy screen and would have gladly paid another £1k over any of them for it. LCD's look great when playing Disney/Pixar overbright artificial colours, but you try watching a movie and expecting realistic colour, hue and saturation; and God help you if you try watching anything with fast moving action scenes when the screen turns to pea soup. By the time LCD gets anywhere near PDP, SED will be ruling the roost. It's a bit like the endless chase for megapixels in digital cameras. There are Sony Cybershots out there with 10.2mp, but their pictures are worse than an old Canon EOS300D with just 5mp. Statistics don't always reveal the truth you know.

Exactly the same as the 1st one posted.. probably the same company some how.

When you go to checkout it adds £69 for delivery and is the same price as the other place. Both use the same finance info etc.

Do lJohn Lewis still do price match ??? wonder if they culd match this lowest price as am sure I read that they include a standard 5 year warranty in with there sets ??

something that personally I would prefer with this relatvly new technology - are proving to be reliable enough or will we not know until a few years down the line ??

what sort off price are you talking to have the wall bracket supplied and fitted for this type off set also just wonder what happens to all the wires to / from the set to say your dvd / vcr etc ?? is it true that they are channeled behind the wall within the fitting process off the wall bracket ??

Three comments:

1) Bought a 42in LG plasma from John Lewis almost 3 years ago, free five year warranty. Very pleased with it, but developed a black band on screen recently. Popped into JL, no paperwork (it was all on their computer) and set fixed and back within a week FOC

2) Say what you like about image quality, but the sound of digital (at least Freeview) is not in sync with the pic And 90% of the time, image quality has nothing to do with the TV, but the broadcast. It will be years before broadcasts catch up. HDTV? You're havin' a laff. You'll have bought three more TVs before that is an everyday reality.

3) Curry's warranty. I bought a £600 stereo and the CD failed after a couple of years, under five year guarantee. It took over a year, and well over a dozen store visits and phone calls before I got £180 credit slip. Never, ever, again

Richard.

Looks like I'm going to have to purchase one of those Vieras! Can't decide on 37" or 42"

Like the way you can get them with the wall bracket on there.

Yes ! They price-match As long as you ask them to match a store, not an online retailer; that the store have the set in stock for immediate delivery; and that it is their standard advertised price, not a special deal specific to you.

Lots of info HERE

The link I gave above for Sound and Vision Online includes the wall-bracket, pedestal, or at extra cost the Pana stand. To conceal the cabling you will have to channel them. If you can't DIY then you will have to source a local installer/builder to do this for you. Otherwise it's either ducting or visible wires.

Try the JL price-match to get the 5yr warranty though, once a PDP goes wrong it's usually scrap They should match Sound And Vision and Curry's no problem.

I thought this Sound and Vision place was an online retailer?

Online AND a store CLICKY

I had to visit the shop in Bolton to qualify for the Panasonic 5yr warranty, the offer of which sadly expired on Dec 24th, hence why I suggest now using the JL price-match offer to get their standard 5yr warranty.

sony are concentrating on lcd , however this is because
a, they are market leaders for lcd
b, lcds are far cheaper to manufacture

for what its worth go to avforums and see the probs people are having with the 42 incher
id go for the 50 myself

The Sony thing wouldn't suprise me, as they didn't get on the boat till late on in Plasma technology (so I recall anyway), and were actually rebadging other manufacturers set's as their own - at least at the start anyway.
