where to buy firewire drive ?

as heading really
i know there are loads of IT bods out there and i would apreciate any advice i can get
i want it to a max of 40 Gb for video editing

If you buy an external Firewire drive choose one with a new chipset on the controllercard because the older Firewire drives are a bit slow. This has nothing to do with the speed of the hd-mechanism or the maximum Firewire speed. Check the actual throughput. A recent 5400rpm drive can be quicker than an older type 7200rpm hd because of the controller used.

Correct , check the sustained transfer rate to give you an idea of real world perfomance. I'll look iot this tomorrow. Are you using these on Macs or PCs

why firewire? I just captured around an hour of DV video to a 40gb IDE drive with no dropped frames or any issues.
