Default ING Direct

Hello

Does anyone use ING Direct for their mortgage? For me they appear to be the cheapest (Don't want a tie-in, just low rate throughout the loan).

Thanks,

Steve

ING is a reputable Dutch bank and is famous for buying Barings for a quid!

They sent a very patronising email to their savers saying how great they were, so as a result they wouldn't be increasing their savings rate with the last BOE rate rise... 4.75 vs 5.45 with Icesave or ICICI. They lost most of our lifetime savings soon after. I've got the impression that they used to be competitive with good rates to get custom and then fail to stay competitive. Maybe their mortgages will do that same?

Care to elaborate? I've got a fair chunk saved with them and they seem fine so far. Do you mean they swindled you or do you mean you moved your money elsewhere?

Don't know what they're like for mortgages but they keep trying to sell me one...

Just moved to higher interest accounts, a fiver a day less interest albeit before tax is a lot of money to me, especially when after tax it is difficult to keep up with real inflation (eg energy, housing, council tax) rather than the joke CPI/RPI. They do pay 5.25% on a small balance if you lock it up for a month. Also, it isn't ideal to keep all your savings in one account. With the debt crisis in the UK, I wouldn't risk my life savings on various banks not going under. There are limits on the compensation schemes so that really you're opening multiple accounts if you've sold a house for example and want to keep your funds properly safe.
