Default Winter heating allowance.

Now I have no problem in giving our pensioners some extra cash to help to pay to keep them warm and comfortable during the winter months. But I do have objections to us sending the money to ppl living in Spain who haved moved there from the UK to retire.

Surely this allowance should be paid in vouchers payable to account holders of the fuel companies in the UK only.

What..like child benefit or family credit, whatever it's called, should be paid in vouchers for food and clothes for kids

They will claim that they paid into the system for 50 years and are now getting some payback?

It also gets cold in the evenings during the winter in most parts of Spain - most of the houses are also built with no insulation, so it's not as if they won't be spending the cash on heating!

I think it makes more sense to pay cash as it costs less to administer than vouchers and lets the pensioner choose the best way of spending the money according to their circumstances (e.g. put it towards better insulation or towards time abroad, rather than simply burn fuel).

Given the payment is to help them stay warm though, it should certainly be linked to the climate of the country in which they live.

Why shouldn't they?

As long as they paid taxes in this country all their working life then they're entitled to it in my opinion, doesn't matter where they live now.
