Brothers friend wants an av amp to go with TV and dvd player.

it's got to be fairly cheap ideally sub 300 quid, if not sub 200 quid.

he says it's got to have at least Dolby Digital and prologic, and preferably DTS as well.

would be nice if it also had sub woofer output as well.

so, got any recommendations?

plus where is the best place on-line to find these things and get great deals on them as well?

funny you should mention that, have tried getting on there, think it's co.uk rather than .com but takes an age to get to the site.

Look at the Denon AVR-1602 - 300 quid and its bloody outstanding in value-for-money terms. Dolby Pro Logic II, DTS, Dolby Digital, 70w per channel and all the normal AV sockets/connectors. Just make sure you get a decent digital interconnect for DVD - AV amp.

Look at www.price-guide.co.uk

A friend of mine bought a wicked Sony one a couple of weeks ago, RRP over £500, I think he paid just over £300, he tells me its the bees knees. He bought it from Hyperfi in London.

ahh, the mecca that is sevenoaks sound and vision (what happened to sevenoaks hi-fi )

think I might suggest the guy pops in there.

I would go in but I'm not allowed, last time I went in there I came out with another set of B&W 601DM speakers! and these are only used for effects speakers. hence I can't be trusted to go into a shop like this with cash or credit card in my pocket

Would suggest getting a copy of What HiFi or HomeCinemaChoise, look through the back for the mail order companies, very cheap stuff going at the moment.
