Quick mtb question
Swapped the forks on my bike last night and came to put the brakes back on, cant get the caliper over the disk as it wont open up enough, just slightly to narrow gap between the pads.
The brakes are Hope mono minis, I have tried pushing the piston back in but it wont go any further and I dont really want to start messing about bleeding them, any tips ?

You may have to bleed them I'm afraid. It's not a hard job, you might even get away with just opening the bleed valve a tiny bit and forcing the pads apart (carefully, don't chip one like I did ) with a spanner or something. It's not hard, just a bit messy.

I've had to do similar with my Hopes, which were set up in the Uk, and LOCKED SOLID in France due to warmer weather. Yeah, I know.........
I just wrapped a paper towel round the bleed nipple, opened it SLIGHTLY, let fluid weep out, then closed it again. Don't touch the levers when doing it.

heard a few people have this problem with the minis, I have mono m4`s and they have always behaved themselves.. it only take 2mins to bleed them anyway, so you might aswell do that !

The Mini's are "self adjusting" unlike the rest of the range, rubbing on the disk is supposed to be normal but at extremely low speed (as in walking it to lock it up somewhere or something) the squeal/resonance generated drives me up the wall!

As said you can bleed it a little from the nipple, but then you need to top up the reservoir.
Alternatively I use a metal ruler (as its thinner than the disc), to carefully force the piston back whilst lightly applying the lever on and off. The piston will receed back.

If the pistons aren't going right back into the calipers (they should fit flush), make sure they're dead square. Had this a while ago, little *******. End up taking everything apart - new seals, new fluid, full kit and kaboodle.
