Don't use iTunes, but I've got 24gb of mp3's sitting on my hard drive, a mere amateur in comparison!

I dont use itunes as it's rubbish.

One folder is 5.56 GB, and the other is 11.7 GB. I fi I ever bothered to rip CD's into Mp3 it would be a lot more than that, but I can't be assed

Have more 12"s than digital music though, by a long long way

@ Mogsi -- having said that we do have a few duplicates as we've been exchanging with friends and we also end up with some dross that I wouldn't normally listen to...but that's a small price to pay <waits for the cracks on paying>

Similar amount, all my CD collection ripped to mp3 (that took a while) plus other stuff acquired from various sources. I don't use iTunes.

But what bit rates, is that 196Gb at 128Kb/s or 320Kb/s or loss-less?

It's not all about size you know but what you do with it that counts

Mine's a mere 17gig, and not a single piece of pirated music.

I developed a lot of the world's largest MP3 jukebox (the touchscreen ones in some pubs), then I had 22TB - almost every CD ever released in the UK

Very true! I tend to rip mine to 192kbs, seems to be a nice balance between file size and sound quality

I don't work there anymore or I'd look for you. One thing that is there, all the stuff like Margaret Thatcher and Winston Churchill speeches, you can put them on in pubs but because of things like that we had to put a 15 minute cap on play length

LOL that's just a few mates. To answer the other questions, most of them are ripped at 128kbps and a few slightly higher at 160. For the curious we have 39,357 files in 4,076 folders and I have a few more artist collections and albums at home to add to that (Iron Maiden, Slayer, Free, Bad Company, Opeth, God Forbid, In Flames, Children Of Bodom etc. etc.)

All stored on a server so our team at work can listen to them whilst they get on with the daily grind

Good point.
Hard drives have a 100% failure rate. Its just a question of when.
Seriously, if you value your data, make monthly back-ups (of the changes)!
