Default Ebay: how to protect from scam bids?

Hi

I'm selling my cellphone on Ebay & I'm worried that I'll get my time & maybe listing fees wasted by scam bids. Wifey suggested that I should list as "Buy it now" with immediate payment, but the phone may be hard to sell & I don't really know the value to go for. So I've listed, but I'm checking listings that have just ended & the scammers are hitting everyone selling cellphones. They seem to be making the scam bids shortly before the auction ends. I understand that they want the goods for free, but if a seller posts fraud wanrings in the listing, would they still bother? If you were trying to sell a cellphone, what would you do?

Example: eBay.co.uk: Motorola RAZR V3i +Superb Xmas Gift+free Leather Pouch (item 260056584509 end time 26-Nov-06 15:18:36 GMT)

it doesnt stop the serious fraudsters but restricting bidders to those people with PayPal accounts only can help.

I restricted to bids only from Ebay members who have a c/c regsitered with Ebay. I suppose that doesn't help with hacked accounts. I'd prefer a cheque than Paypal as there's always chargeback risk with Paypal. At least with a cheque I can give it a couple weeks to clear?

Ive recent had a Nokia N80 on Orange advertised on Ebay, a complete waste of time, still have the phone sat here and cant be ar$ed relisting due to the amount of idiots using ebay to con people.

Plus, the amount of messages from chinese companies trying to sell their wares.

Actually NSR has got better!

I'm not sure what a green rep is. Is it good?

I joined when I ordered my 99my DBM UK 4 door, I now have a WR1.

reps are the blue box things under a username with a tic and a cross in it. you choose a user and tick the approve box

how many users were here when you joined? (nosey head on)

"Old" is relative.

I now know all about reps. What are all those other buttons?

I can't remember how many users there were, I can remember the war if that helps?

Yeah I had a scammer in Turkey try to get my camera last week. Such a pain in the @$$ as you have to relist it, contact other bidders, pay the fees and claim them back. eBay really need to sort it out, and quick.

I usally insist on paypal, with a registered address, a minimum of ten feedback and all that.....

Keep an eye on it and cancel any bids that you don't like the look of!

There are a few of us left from the early days - there may even be a few from September 1998 still knocking around - it took me a couple of weeks to register.....
