Remote controlled cars ?
My wife reckons I am having a second childhood, I say the first one hasnt ended yet, this is because I said I wanted an rc car for Christmas, none of you Halfords specials either, she thought it was amusing until I reminded her she had asked for a Pink Nintendo with a virtual Chihuahua game !
Already havea Halfords scoob one and its been mullered by the kids, so I fancy a decent one like the 'Optima mid' that my brother had years ago, considered getting a Hornet seeing as its been re released as that was the first one we had but I think I want something a bit more competent.
Cant decide whether to get an electric one again or go for a nitro one, have not had much experience with nitro but the ones I have seen were pretty noisy, very fast and not much good and sliding about which is what I liked about electric but could do without charging batteries, the Nitro one also seemed a bit unreliable, starting problems and conking out etc but thats based on a sample of one.
So open to suggestions or if anyone is flogging something PM me

if you want fast, buy a shumacher .21 1:10 scale, fusion ( on road/ B&Q car park ) with 3 gears, or XT? with 2? but rapidly quick on road as its an off roader, wheelies R' us Both come with leccy drill start. Much easier, about 250-300 quid ready to run.
if you want reliable & start on the button, then get chainsaw engied based 25cc 2 stroke mix such as an FG 1:5 scale....base models not that quick, but they drive well, and are easily and cheaply souped up thanks to the RC fraternity selling old bits on ebay.
If you want something that looks & drives like Colin McCrae & his car like he stole it, then get a 1:6 scale with a .21 engine. Quicker than the 1:5, big chassis with decent suspension travel makes for some crowd pleasing 4WD powerslides, and the big bodyshell echos the .21@35,00 RPM a treat
shumacher do one based on an exige, promax do them based on allsorts, I've had all 3 and this size was about the best of the lot for all round enjoyment.

Ive got one of these
Hot Bodies Lightening, good for about 50mph in a couple of seconds, its a nitro buggy that can be used anywhere, is 4 wheel drive, and loves to be thrashed
Parts are really cheap and can be mail ordered from good model shops. As with any rc car (thats not from argos) their will be times that you will need to tinker/fix it, and it can be quite fiddley, so as long as your ok with that, get one, you'll love it just like ur scoob.
i take mine to the local bmx track when ive had a crap day, and after some very loud drifts and catching 10 foot air, i always come home a very happy bunny

Lol....when I had an op on my foot last year, and two of my mates also had simliar ops,....to pass the time we decided to build our own ones up from scratch....
Schumacher all the way....
I've got a carbon scooby with 4wd system and instead of going the petrol way, I went big motor way....
I know you have to recharge if every ten mins but my mates petrol ones can't keep up on the start as they have to wait for gear changes!!!
Can't take it racing (like I really care) but it makes my laugh....
You walk in a model shop, ask for the best motor they have....they um and ahh and say, "Well it's expensive, it's £56...."
Mine......
It's all fun and games......

I dont have any vids of my buggy in action
However, i do have this clip of one that is very similar to mine in pace and handling.
Not that i'd try this with mine, but it demonstrates how much they can be abused, at the end of the clip, the shell comes flying off which is why it kinda makes a crunch when it lands, but it still comes back for more
YouTube - house jump
Just edited to say thats i know that there are plenty faster rc cars than mine about, but i can lob this in the back of the car and use it anywhere. Dosnt the Schumacher Menace do around 80mph or something daft.

agree with the schumachers ive had a big 6 a fusion 3 speed and a menace, if your looking for a all rounder go for a menace, awesome on tarmac and grear on the dirt etc to, amazing fun, i found the fusion a struggle for grip etc but then it will do 70 odd mph lol
also had a hyper 7 and many other models, got into kinda buying and selling em on ebay etc so have tried many models
savages etc are fun but i can quite honestly say my favourite was the menace, look cool too
got pics of lots but here was me menace, there same 3 speed .21 as the fusion

Here's mine, bought a couple of years ago, when I had some cash burning, and a mate egging.
I have just had to fit a new manifold gasket. The body shell is a WRC Burnsey Bugeye, but it usally conks out before I get it on.

Oh dear, its getting more expensive, lad at work (lurks on here, hi Steve) and we had a go in the car park, added a little fun to an otherwise dull and boring day in sunny Rochdale, cheers !
Dont know what to get but the cost is spiralling in the manner of the Olympics, wont be a Hornet, Steves was fun and nostalgic but reminds me of why we went to a 4wd model back then, so its a toss up between a 4wd buggy and a nitro one, torn as I like the instant go and silent running of an Electric but quite fancy the ballistic speed and noise of a Nitro, trouble is, unless I spend 400 quid Nitro's seem a bit limited.

Looks like a Kyosho to me.
Have one as well but use my Team Associated RC10B4 buggy more as it's more fun on the loose and better on grass. I bought the buggy as the nitro cars are too loud for residential use if you want to get on with the neighbours.
ModelSport have the RC10's on offer.
Associated RC10 B4 RS RTR
Associated RC10B4 Factory Team Kit
Cheers

Nitro ready to runs aren't too much money really.
The hot bodies lightening ready to run is £260 from modelsportuk.com
Theres 3 Hyper 7s in ready to run format - from £222 to £359.
I prefer 1/8 rallycross hence my recommendations. You may prefer nitro trucks etc.
If you can, find out if you have a nearby club which caters for nitro cars. Be careful though, if you get bit its very addictive!
I used to do rallycross week in week out - miss it loads recently

The 8th scale is a Mugen MBX5 Pro spec and the touring car is a HPI Pro4

My Wife bought me the Hornet as a silly birthday gift a few months back, it was re-released by Tamiya to satisfy all those big kids that smashed one as a little kid. Driving the thing is an absolute hoot because the chassis can't even handle the standard motor, even building the thing brought the memories back. My other car is a baja champ with bent suspension, obviously still only for fun.
As there seem to be a few people on here who know their stuff, what do people think of the new Tamiya Dark Impact model? It seems to be a lot better than the normal Tamiya stuff and I'm dropping heavy hints for Christmas
Steve

Nitro cars r better cos u just bring them in for fuel and carry on runnin it and they don't work out that much more expensive?

Agree about Schumacher!! Best quality at a reasonable price.
I too used to have an Optima Mid, still got my Cat2000TC which is ready to go....just not gone for about 6 years.
As for Nitro cars Ive got a Big6 3 speed, a Menace GTR 3 speed and an FG 1:5 scale Astra DTM which is fun but not as much fun as the Big6 but best handling car is the GTR due to 4WD.

Hpi kits are definitely the way forward...
Makers of the Savage which is pretty awesome.
I do like this one though

Hi Steve !
I decided to play safe and stick with electric as its a lot cheaper.
Got this one called a Dark Impact, Tamiya 4wd with a few nice upgardes like oil filled shocks and ballraces. Cant have it until Christmas according to the missus, oh well, want it up and running soon in case it snows.
Endless opportunities for small Ebay purchases !
