Default The Reputation System - Good or Bad?

Is this reputation system good or bad?

Is it a power base for the 'elite' to make us dissappear on a whim straight out of Stalinist Russia, or is it a valid way or rating peoples contribution to the board?

As a warning: Be careful before you speak out about someone in the 'club' directly - you may attract a lot of unwanted attention. On that basis your vote is hidden.

I think it's terrific

I hadn't even thought about it until I read muppets just now and saw that poor old CharlieWRXSTI had been getting grief about her appearance in the Ugly Women and Scooby's? thread.

I then posted this......

https://www.scoobynet.com/6369891-post20.html

.............in Chip Sengravey's thread to see if it'd garner a reaction from the female Muppets who were swooning over the baby pics and licking their wounds over their mate taking a kicking for being......er, cosy. low and behold it had! The first time I'd checked my 'rep' ( hilarious). The good news is I'm still in the black and I don't even know ShammyH or whatever his name is.

I think it's a brilliant scheme. Incredible to see the way some peoples behaviour has changed and how seriously it's being taken in certain quarters .

For the first time ever I'd like to say "well done Snet admin"

edited to amend name of mod

P.S I've had 5 red blobs over this post and no public criticism (apart from Chips Sengravey)......just a little red blob left in userCP to show disapproval. Deafers

Where's the "I don't care, and won't consider it" option?

I think it's a bit early to judge whether it's a success or not. Obviously it's a novelty right now and a bit of a laugh (good thing) - but I don't see the regular trolls getting negative scores as they're supposed to (bad thing).

IMHO anything which encourages people to take a moment to say something nice about each other has to be good - I like Ebay feedback for the same reason. (Think about it, how often do you take a moment to say something nice to someone you don't know otherwise?)

Yes, but it means something on ebay as you are sending that person money for a product, or trusting them to pay you.

This is a BBS that offers only (mild) amusement, and passes the time. Great for sources of knowledge that google can't answer, but not somewhere where you'd G.A.F what you rep score is/was.

I think the whole idea is open to abuse. There is power in anonimity (sp) and the sad and cruel on the board can use this to be personally destructive....even leaving false ID to incriminate someone else. At least this doesn't happen when it's on an open forum.

If there's a comment to be left...make it known who's left it.

1....it's not my thread.

2....anyone that takes the ****, and can only post sneide comments about someone that has posted a pic, without having the ***** to post one themselves, really needs to get a pic up.

3....anyone that feels the need to remind the board of their hillarious **** taking post in another thread via a link, probably shouldn't bother putting their pic up. It won't be worth seeing, that's why they had a dig in the first place, yes?

1. It wasn't your thread. Fair one.
2. The comments about Charlie from others were tight, but I knew her mates were on the thread and wanted to see if they'd react. They did and that made me chuckle.
3. It was to highlight how ludicrous the whole feckin' experiment is and how people (discounting fatherpierre) are scared of expressing themselves for fear attracting 'neg rep'. LMAO ; 'neg rep'........ it's ridiculous for goodness sake. I've clearly upset you and for that I'm sorry, 'cos on the whole I find your posts funny. C'est la vie

not upset, just an observation....I may have engaged keyboard before brain however, as reading back you are not the one commenting?

which kind of negates my post pointed toward you, but I'll keep the sentiment

anyway....I'll up your rep, rapid delivery, good comms, no hassle from this poster-highly reccomended!

How the feckin' blazes am I having a go at you here!?

The paranoai's unbelievable.

This is a car forum frequented predominantly by blokes. You have to expect a bit of grief if you put your pic up. Have a hunt around in Muppets and you may find a rather pasty, dishevled looking pic of JTaylor which Karl, L101 et al ripped the **** out of one boring afternoon. We all had a laugh and that was that and I didn't mince around 'neg reppin' () people 'cos I was all insecure.

None of this stuff actually counts

I think it will be good once the initial silliness and childish, vitriolic red-blobbing dies down.

Here's one from yesterday, Geoff, negative obviously;

You poke dogs, but are too embarassed to admit it. You should come out as a pouch pounder like the rest of us.
Now if that's the average intelligence level of the ******* abusing the rep system, what worth does it really have?

And let's not get into a discussion over the truthfullness of the statement

whatever your opinion on the rep system, it certainly has got ppl talking...unlike the furl/digg/other pap system that was introduced.

Everything is open to abuse to some degree, at least this has brought out some amusing comments...
