Speeding points/fines warnings
Folks,
STis are dear enough to run without feeding the police coffers too!
I am seriously considering some form of protection from the revenue'rs! However, I am told that there is no speed trap detection system that will totally protect you with timely enough warnings. Others say they work fine if you have a grill mounted laser detector for them?
I have seen one that was too late in that the warning did not come quick enough?
What is the advice out there?
Anyone tried the BTST device?
Rgds,
Mikez

My own view is that I would hardly drive without one, most give plenty warning unless you are going at insane speeds in which case you get everything you deserve. The common complaint is for false alarms but modern units are better than they used to be, and a false alarm might be from a hidden unit that you just did not see in which case its really done its job as I really want to know when I am in a "safety" area

The one that is mounted in the grille seems to work best because it jams the signal of the gun being pointed at you, resulting in an error report on the gun - this is however, totally illegal to use!
Other devices such as Road Angel, Snooper etc, seem to work fine for static speed cameras, via a database, however, they are totally useless for laser guns etc. Compare it to the remote control transmitting a signal to your TV! As soon as the laser hits your car, its too late, the device will tell you you that you have been hit, but you get no time to do anything about it, like slow down!! I have tried a few different devices, and have sold them all on!
Either don't speed - or keep you eyes WIDE open!

You dont need to drive an STi to run the risk of speeding fines.... These days even "little old dears" in Micras are getting caught....
I use a Snooper combined GPS & radar unit, but there are a few decent alternatives on the market. However, what ever you use, is no substitute for common sense & observation.....

As abobe - by the time it warns you you are caught with lasers. GPS based with advanced warnings are the best you can hope for.
Jamers sound great but if you drive past a van more than once or twice and they get an error they send the old bill round to your house to check the car for any illegal devices.....

There is a front parking sensor system that happens to use laser. As it is a front parking detector it is allowed to transmit all the time the car is in a forward gear. A side effect is that it jams laser speed guns without giving an error code. IIRC, costs about £300 plus fitting. Totally legal for now.
Combine the above with a GPS system (with radar fixed/mobile camera sites) and something like a Road Angel, you are about as "safe" as you can be legally.

So jammers are the better option? A bit of research suggested these were all snake oil?
Anyone tried the The Blinder M10 Twin (sold in the UK as the Snooper SLD 920)?
Even if they do work do I need both laser and radar jammers?
..but of course I usually drive within the limit.
rgds,
Mikez
