Got an advance copy of this new rally game for the PS2 and I’m blown away.

Driving the Impreza around the different countries is soooo real (especially with in-car view).

The graphics are a bit behind Gran Turismo’s but WRC is more fun and much more realistic than Colin McCrae on the PSone.

Red face

No problems with the handling in the demo version?????? The one I played, you just tap the analogue pad and the car shoots off in that direction...........the cars are VERY skitty.

Is it true that there are 2 versions?

One called the 'nancy-boy' edition showing Gold Wheels

and

One called the 'Real-man' edition - for men with silvers?

Thumbs up

I played it on Saturday and thought it was excellent!!! Really good car physics and a lot of fun. So good in fact that the better half bought me a PS2 with GTA3 straight after playing WRC.

Only problem is she wont let me have it until my birthday - 11th Dec.

I am off work sick today, and the PS2 is right here next to me - aaaaaghhghhghghghg!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thumbs down

The handling on the demo was seriously naff. Car never settled - constant minute adjustments required and it just felt wrong. Plus not convinced by the graphics - sometimes the car looked like it was floating over the road rather than running along it. Too much emphasis has been placed on gimmicks like the drivers' faces.

Unless the final game is a serious improvement I'm going to have to wait until Colin McRae 3....

Agree with the above.

Car looked like it was hovering and handled like it had a single pivot point through the middle. It always feels like you are trying to steer the scenery around the car.

CM2 is still the daddy, and by a massive margin in my opinion.

Question

Please, someone tell me that they have their hands on a release version of this game and that the handling has been fixed.

As marcus says, in the demo the car was far too unsettled and skittish, requiring constant (over) correction.

The graphics/sound are great, and I can even live with the occasional floating car from the outside views. Afterall, all the driving is done using the in car views, right ?

My local store has it in stock, but I don't want to waste 40 quid. Someone please put me out of my misery

Thanks,

Andrew.

Played a demo version back in August and the finished version’s handling is totally different.

It’s out on Friday and I still think it’s more fun than GT3

I went back and played the demo again last night, but this time I hooked up the GT steering wheel.

What a difference.

I didn't find myself fighting a skittish piece of crap, the car was actually quite drivable. And I was able to beat the 'record stage time' by more than 15 seconds on each of the two available stages

So, I can't say what the final version will be like, but I guess this means that I'll be out there buying it later today

I was in two minds after playing the demo of WRC, but when I returned to GT3, the quality of GT3 was evident, better handling, better graphics and all together a better feel.

I have read loads of feedback on this game and a lot of people said the car handling on WRC was terrible, something which I agreed with. However I think opinions were based entirely on the demo version. If you check out the review on digitiser on CH4, page 482, they give the game 5/5. It is not often a 5/5 is given out and digitiser is all too keen to criticise the PS2 and it's games! So it looks like the final version has addressed the issues of the handling as per comments on digitiser.

Plus if you do a search on the web, there are plenty of sites who are selling the game for £29.99.

So is there anyone else who can confirm that the handling has been totally changed from the demo?

Even though I was impressed with GT3, the actual racing side to things was severly lacking. I could do with a decent competitive racing game, especially against the clock and if the final version of WRC has addressed the faults everyone mentioned about the demo, then I may purchase the game.

Anyone else have any comments to back up that the final version is fine?

P.S. I still think the Colin McCrae PS2 rally game will be the one to get, however we will have to wait until mid 2002 for that one!!!

Maybe.......
Ive just bought PSM2 magazine and they are normally very strict with their scores and they have given it 87/100.......which is pretty good!!!.........obviously this doesnt mean that everyone should rush out and buy the game, but for them to give it a decent score, it should be good.

Unhappy

I played a full version at RallyHQ in Cardiff. I was impressed by the visuals, couldn't really hear much though.

It was pretty impossible to tell the handling really. Seemed Ok. Shame, coz I was aware of all your comments previously.

I think I'll be buying a copy though.

Has anyone looked at the official site http://www.wrc.com

The competition to win the Tommi Mak Edition Lancer is on there, but what a complete ***** up

There are four 'weekends' where particular challenges have to be met, and the best time wins blah blah blah.

Only problem is that weekends 1 and 4 coincide directly with the Monte Carlo and Cyprus rounds of the rally.

Agghhh, to bad if you wanted to actually go and see the rally in the flesh (was planning on going to one of these two ...)

I got invited to the official launch, at the Springbok bar in Cardiff.

We played in the Recaro seat/wheel/peddle things shown in the competition in Rally XS.

I thought it was brilliant. We played in the presence of Petter Solberg and Marku Martin and the Welsh and Australian rugby teams. 2 hours practise on St Gwynno stage and we still couldn't get close to Petter's time. It was scary just to watch the screen with him driving, actually being in a car with him must be ridiculous.

The graphics are superb and Monte Carlo looks like the best of the events.

Its on my Crimbo list
