I know full well there is an Ignore function, but I've always felt that I should not need to use it to prevent seeing threads/posts by trolls as they should be dealt with by the moderation/admin team.

Simon/Shaun,
Where does mick-taking end and trolling start as what some people may see as trolling others may see as a good-natured banter, Pete & UB for example. Just a point of view

Yeah, to be honest, I agree completely.
However, I think, as with all things like this, you can only go with the really obvious examples, like a genuine discussion about current events, and someone popping up and posting "****!" as their considered response.
There's a place for banter and for micky taking.. most people know this, but we've all been at that party with the annoying guy with no social skills spoiling it for everyone by being too loud and just a little bit innapropriate. In those situations it would be great to have a "delete" button to eject this kind of moron out of the building!

As someone who uses this forum regularly I either enjoy them or ignore them depends on my mood
HOWEVER I do believe they have a big impact on Newbies who haven't come across a troll before

Regarding Muppets, etc.. To be honest, we would do this in all forums if we decided to do it. Its just that I understand it to be the biggest problem in NSR, so thought we'd ask here first.

wheres the option for 'I find them entertaining unless they are blatantly offensive and rude (such AS ONES WHO TYPE IN CAPITAL LETTERS WHILE SNORTING COKE)?'
two types of troll IMHO- the good type, and E*S*O*BY.

pslewis jumping on threads where someone is asking about a knocklink and going on about cocklinks and generally insulting people who have them is something I'd consider trolling. Similar deal when he does the same thing about which oil to use, and probably other topics too.
There is a very fine line between winding people up and becoming seriously annoying, UB's constant "Top gear has been axed" comments are an example, probably posted purley just to get a rise out of people, though most are probably ignoring it.
One other factor to be considered is multiple user accounts, partly those used for trolling/abusive posts. There's no reason any of us should have multiple accounts. I fully admit I do have a few, and the last time I used one was a few months ago, and it was used to reply in a jokey method to a post. However, I'd be more than happy if all my other accounts were removed. I think the post count gives a vauge idea that this is my main account. If I've something to say, I'll use this account, as you're painfully aware If I'm going to bitch, I'll do it with this account, there's no reason to hide behind another userid.

I dont come on here nearly as much as I used to - the reason for that being the troll factor and the racially related posts made by some.
There is often little noticable difference between NSR and muppets in that one could post a serious thread about something NSR and get a stupid rpley. From that the thread deteriorates into utter tosh.

They don't bother me too much but I've voted Sort Them Out.
Why?
Because it makes SN look a mockery in front of other car related forums. Plus, new members might have a valid question or contribution. See their post trolled into oblivion and leave forever.
And NSR being muppet-ised is a PITA - although its not as bad as it was a few months back.

I do think more heavy handed moderation is required in NSR. More threads need to be moved to the muppet forum, and muppet like posts on threads should be removed.
Being blunt, I think Muppets and Super Muppets should be merged and the resulting Muppet forum should be subscription only. If you want to talk crap on SN then you pay for the privilege of doing so. If you don't wish to pay then I'm sure there are other forums out there where you can indulge your inner/outer muppet tendancies.
Perhaps when it comes to trolls there needs to be a warning system in place. First offence, you are asked to stop and the offending posts/threads are removed. Second offence you are asked to leave, if you then continue, your account is then prevented from posting. This would possibly stop the casual offender, but we then get onto a whole other world of issues with the hardcore offenders, and that's a topic for another time.

My only complaint is that those members considered to be offensive, and i'm thinking of one in particular here, gets banned then comes back almost immediately with a new user name quite similar to the previous one.
What's the point in banning them unless they stay banned?
