...and I bet that page isn't https://www.paypal.com - what does it say in the address bar of your browser when it's displayed.

It's a scam - 100%

Its a scam. Anything purporting to be from paypal that does not contain the name you signed up with is a phishing mail. Also paypal advise you never to follow links from an email, but to log into paypal.com by typing the address in the URL bar of your browser.

ANY E-mails from Paypal or Ebay, regarding up dating records are ALL scams, and should be deleted.
The only emails your should get from either is confirmation of a bid or payment, etc.

The link is the same as the genuine paypal.
If I was you, for safety reasons, I would clear my history, delete all cookies, and then manually go into the paypal UK address. You'd be able to see from there if your cards need updating.

No no no. Do it, follow the link, enter your details, then go out and buy a 50" plasma, then call the bank and say you might have inadvertantly been scammed and that you haven't used your credit card today, cancel the card, get a new one and buy a new wall bracket for your free 50" plasma !

People should be smacked with a smelly kipper each time they even need to think if these e-mails are legit.

No you sign on to a secure server which requires https.

I got a genuine email from eBay about my account being locked. Didn't click anything just went to EBay as normal and sure enough, couldn't logon. Followed the instructions about following the online forgotten password procedure and now I'm all back in huncky dory.

Man, i cant believe people are still clicking links in emails, buy hey, its your money your giving away.

NEVER EVER click a link in ANY email, even if you know who you "think" its from.

The link can say whatever it likes, doesnt mean thats where its taking you.

Forward any dodgy emails to spoof@ebay.com or spoof@paypal.com and wait for their reply.

I dread to think how many people get their accounts ripped off this way!

Its a scam.

I had an interesting experience with Paypal. I received a LETTER (bizarre I know) notifying me of my updated features and it included the validation code.

I didn't really think anything of it. Then a while later whilst at my PC I checked it out and it just did not make sense.

I telephoned Paypal and in order their responses were: -

deny all knowledge of sending it to me
deny all knowledge of such a letter
accept that there could be such a letter
deny sending that kind of letter to me
went away to check with her colleague
silly me - it was for your other account

"What other account?" I enquired patiently.

Oh, the account at nood32@msn.com

"I don't have another account"

A bit more toing and froing and they referred it to their fraud department as someone from somewhere had nicked my credit card details and used it to set up a Paypal account. I traced him over the net - he didn't speak Eeeengleeesh!

So if you are concerned, call Paypal, and be persistent.
