Default £1 loaf of bread on the way

SHOPPERS may soon be charged £1 for a loaf, experts said yesterday.
A nine-year high in the worldwide price of grain is raising the price of bread, cereals and pastry.
Eggs, cheese and dairy products will also cost more as farmers have to shell out more for feed.
Food price hikes have already hit six per cent, said The Grocer magazine. A 100-item shopping basket has risen by more than £10 in the past year - and almost a fiver in the past month.
Some experts claim supermarkets are using the grain hike as an excuse to raise prices.

Me too, looks like the rest of them are just cheapskates. That cheap bread is like chewing toffee rather than eating bread. Like most things you get what you pay for.

Decent bread costs more than a quid, anyway?

If you eat the budget crap at 12p a loaf then you're eating pure ****e with no nutritional value at all.

It's like saying - "McDonald's will soon cost you over xxxxxxx".

You get what you pay for.

Forecasting the price of bread?? What a sad job!!!!! Nothing better to do with there life. Just imagine a meeting with these people - YAWN!

And what is reqiured to become an expert in this? 3 months looking at supermarket sales.

Experts predict that I just wasted 5 mins typing this.

Soft commodities, becoming the target of speculators, especially as the Chinese now need more for their wealthier and growing population.

Get to your local baker and get a fresh baked loaf rather than processed muck for about half that price!

There's nothing nicer than a fresh, warm, crusty loaf from the bakers laden with real butter, mmmm...

Such a shame it's so unhealthy

Wait a second - there's a website for reviews on loaves of bread?

The developed world truly has gone mad.

So yet MORE things rising in price, yet government inflation figures are still only 2.5% - thats an accurate calculation ....

I think the only items which are getting cheaper or staying the same in price are cheap electronics and other stuff from China, however when they will rise a fair bit when China revalues its currency - then inflation and hence interest rates will be up sharply!
