SHOPPERS may soon be charged £1 for a loaf, experts said yesterday.
A nine-year high in the worldwide price of grain is raising the price of bread, cereals and pastry.
Eggs, cheese and dairy products will also cost more as farmers have to shell out more for feed.
Food price hikes have already hit six per cent, said The Grocer magazine. A 100-item shopping basket has risen by more than £10 in the past year - and almost a fiver in the past month.
Some experts claim supermarkets are using the grain hike as an excuse to raise prices.

Decent bread costs more than a quid, anyway?
If you eat the budget crap at 12p a loaf then you're eating pure ****e with no nutritional value at all.
It's like saying - "McDonald's will soon cost you over xxxxxxx".
You get what you pay for.

And what is reqiured to become an expert in this? 3 months looking at supermarket sales.
Experts predict that I just wasted 5 mins typing this.

Tastes a hell of a lot nicer too, especially with some nice crumbly cheese

So yet MORE things rising in price, yet government inflation figures are still only 2.5%
- thats an accurate calculation
....
I think the only items which are getting cheaper or staying the same in price are cheap electronics and other stuff from China, however when they will rise a fair bit when China revalues its currency - then inflation and hence interest rates will be up sharply!
