Question Any shift workers in?

Hi

I'm starting a new job next week which will be shifts, I've never worked shifts before!

I'm starting on 6 days on, 3 days off and this will go through to March. I've been asked to decide what I want to do from April. I can either stay on 6-3 or go to 5 on 4 off, plus other things like 4 in 7, 7 and 2 etc

I'm stuck between 6 - 3 and 5 - 4, any thoughts?

Cheers!

I used to work 4 on 4 off, in a 2 on days, 2 nights 4 off pattern. I loved it, finish the last night shift, come home sleep till mid day, then the rest of the 3.5 days are yours to do with as you want.

I'm infact looking for another job on shift doing the datacentre op roll I used to for this very reason.

I do 4 on 4 off 2 days 2 nights 4 off 12 hour shifts.
Brilliant pattern, loads of time off.
I'd go for longer days but less of them given the choice - 5/4 from your list above rather than the 6/3

Edit - have just seen Demonsurfer above - how the hell do you manage to get 10 off on that pattern!

The up side is, you'll use 5 days holiday and get a total of 13 days off

Did 12 years of 6-14.00 and 14.00 to 22.00 loved the earlies at 1st so had afternoons to do whatever but in the end preferred lates.
Shift work is alleged to take years off your life. I personally found it ok for the 1st 5yrs then was continually tired after that point.

It would be the 5-4 option for me.

Im working 14 days on then 7 days off, 12hr shifts. Either 7am-7pm or vice versa.

Its hard knowing that you have to basically work and sleep for 14 days but there are benefits such as having loads of money to spend on the week off!!

Starting a period of nightshift tonight actually.

Personally I dont mind doing shift work, however ive posted up on here before about it and some people wouldnt do what others are prepared to do.
