What's the story with hand lugage/duty free?
If liquids are not allowed as part of your hand luggage on aircraft these days does that mean I can't buy any booze or perfume in the duty free shops and take it on board with me? If so I'll bet the duty free shops are gutted.

Had a problem coming back through LGW after a recent trip to Bermuda.
Bought Duty free in Bermuda no problem, but when I got to LGW I could not carry it through to connecting flight to Manchester as you have to exit and go back through security.
Had to check in hand luggage or loose it.

It,s a scaremongering p!sstake on the part of UK airports. I've just flown Emirates to Bangkok via Dubai, the security goons at Manchester had a huge haul of confiscated stuff at Manchester. They stopped the guy in front of me because he was carrying his laptop in its case inside his hand luggage bag, they insisted this counted as two bags, so wouldn't let him through:*****:
Getting on the connecting flight at Dubai, there's people getting on with hand luggage bigger than my suitcase

Went to Madeira in September from Gatwick and you weren't allowed to take any liquids or cosmetics through security.
You could buy whatever you wanted once through security unless you were flying to the US in which case you couldn't take any liquids or cosmetics on the plane at all.
Cosmetics covered everything including the Mrs' Lip balm!
So in answer to your question, all deoderants and stuff have to go in your case and be checked in.

Just back from the Dominican Republic (from Glasgow airport), the queue for the security desks/metal detectors was the whole length of the airport, all drinks purchased before there were confiscated then had to sit in Int.departures for two hours at "airport prices".

Thanks for the info SirFozzalot. I usually fly via Heathrow but this time it's a direct flight from Geneva so I guess I'll have to have a hunt aound the Swissair website as I don't like the sound of this "no liquids" into the US...unless of course I take DCI's advice and drink the perfum

Duty Free shops don't seem to know the correct answer either. I was flying back from Miami a couple of weeks ago to London Heathrow then getting another flight up to Edinburgh.
I collect different Jack Daniels bottles and saw one i didn't have. Duty Free in Miami said that it would be confiscated at security in London when i boarded my Edinburgh flight. I didn't buy it and when i got to London i asked at security if they would have taken it and they said no as i had not left the building at Heathrow as i internally connected from terminal 3 to terminal 1. Really gutted, however i will get my brother to get it for me when he goes in a few weeks.
They are very strict on the 1 piece of hand baggage rule and if you can't get everything into 1 bag then you have to dump it. After security you can buy whatever you want and have as many bags as you want. However if you are connecting to another flight then you must only have 1 bag.

While writing this a warning a little off topic though. If you are traveling to Disney do not buy the part used unexpiring passes readily available from places like ebay etc because you wont get in the parks.the first time a pass is used your finger print is scanned and its then linked to that ticket so if you take a pass that somebody else has used the fingerprints wont match so NO ENTRY.

In fact I have heard on the news this morning that liquids up to 1 litre are now allowed on flights to the US.
