All religion is false and sick

Religion gives a way of life, a code of conduct to the human. But if it deflects one from humanity and common sense, it is a load of bullsh*t.

Religion is for the thick and deluded, if there is anything when you die I am sure it can cope with non religous types, and hey we saved all those Sunday mornings.

Humanism is the real alternative to theism. Try reading "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins.

Do you ever think religion will die out? I don't know a single religious person, and never have done. Surely its the same for many of you?
Do you think that the following will reduce over the next few hundred years?
Surely it all has to be forgotten sometime?
My view is that its a great big pile of steaming dog ****. The cleverest way of controlling people ever invented.

I know a religious person(s)...
My Uncle...
Only after nearly dying of an illness in his 50's though
Gone all holier than thou now, used to be a top bloke.
I believe religion was simply invented as a tool to control the masses many many years ago when we didn't know any better and were virtually just animals with a brain.
It's now out of date and clearly not working anymore.
We need a different set of moral values to abide by now, something related to fact not fantasy !

A personal belief that there may be a 'creator', 'architect' or whatever verus organised religion dictating to you, are two very different things.
I am not about to discuss my beliefs... done that before on here and it was if anything long and drawn out - but I do agree organised religion is a bad thing not needed in todays world and the root of many problems.

Perhaps a bit of updating for the 21st century is needed - you shall go out and mug an old person, you shall steal your neighbours wife, his telly, cd, car and anything else you can lay your hands on, you shall go out an kill someone because they asked you to keep the noise down, you shall be a pervert who molests children. A few suggestions.
Perhaps the decline in religious beliefs has led to the increase in murder, theft, crime in general, and lack of respect!

No it just means that the general population, rather than just the churches are getting in on the act

Religion is for weak people that cant solve there own problems and see whats really there, i could understand it in the dark ages but not in this day and age. And all that about decline in religious beliefs crap the reason for the rise in murder and alike are manly due to the media before the media you wouldnt have heard half of what you do now unless it was someone you know, but yes if it has risen could it not be due to us having nothing to fear you kill someone get a few years in a nice cosy prison you get more for robing a bank dodging paying tax or anyother kind of money crime than you would for killing a kid whilst pissed behind the wheel.

Religion is like a policy, made by some people, followed by some people. They tend to blame some God for making it. Basically, that God is their "supposed-to-be" logical mind. That is why, most of the religion talks about being nice to people, not to hurt anyone etc. etc.
So, God is a creation of human imagination for the sake of emotional security. You are right. When there is nothing to hold on to, when there is nothing to lean on, this imagination helps some. It is very similar to object meditation. some religions' philosophy directs you to search for God within you. Your strength is your God. Your will power is your strength.
Pretty straight forward, really.
IMO.

So some people like Scoobies with bits bolted on them and some people like to think they're saving the world in a Toyota Prius - who's right?
If there is a god then I think he/she/it/they deserve some marks for creating people who:

a) don't believe in he/she/it/them and
b) are bigotted enough to think that they have some right to impose their perception on other people, be their perception that of a believer, an agnostic or an atheist.

Most religions encourage people to live a good life thinking of others and doing good things in life. There is nothing wrong with that.
The problems in the world associated unfairly with religion are caused by unprincipled fanatics who are acting for their own wishes rather than that of the religion.
Those who rail against religion are usually looking for an excuse, often to themselves, for not wanting to bother with with it. They are unlikely to have ever attempted to understand what religion really stands for.
