Had some bad news this evening.
My fiances dog, a German Shep. within the space of an hour became very poorly.
My fiance & his dad rushed the dog to the vets. The vet thought he might be bleeding internally, and kept him in to run tests and x-rays.
We had a phone call a while after to say that they were doing an emergency operation. About 1hour ago they called again to say it was a tumor on his spleen which had burst. They have removed his spleen, and checked for signs of other tumors ( thankfully they can't see any). He is extremely poorly, and has lost a vast amount of blood. The next few hours are critical.
I am really upset and worried about him; we are just hoping that he pulls through.
Apparently these tumors are not uncommon in German Sheps of his age ( we think he is around 10). From what we have found on the interweb, these tumors are known as Hemangiosarcomas.
We'll be keeping our fingers, toes and just about everything else you can think of crossed tonight

Dogs are the new Muslims for Scoobynet.
Not saying Muslims are dogs, even if thats what they call us sometimes, just wanted to clear that up in case it gets into the papers.
Just that there has been a few dog threads rather than the recent Muslim themes.
Hope the hound makes a full recovery and continues to respect Islam.

Thanks, all.
No phone call during the night so that can only be good, right? We have to wait until 9:30 to call them . Fingers & toes still crossed.

Scoot is still really poorly, and is not out of the woods yet. He lost vast amounts of blood ( to the point that when they checked for other tumors they had real difficulty in seeing anything).
He is on a drip to try and get his blood levels back up, and to rehydrate him.
If I keep my fingers crossed as tightly as they have been for much longer, I think I'll lose blood supply to them

Can appreciate what your going through there fella, or dog got attacked by some pikeys lurchers and to get away he ran off, unfortunately he ran across a road and was hit by a car, he was badly injured and had to have a 5 1/2 hour operation to repair his shattered leg.
Good luck and I hope the dog gets better.
Our is on the mend - btw

Thanks everyone. Our dogs are a much loved part of our family. I think what shocked us most was how quickly he become unwell, but hopefully he will be coming home to us soon.
Mykp -Your poor dog! Glad to hear it is on the mend ( btw I'm a lass not a fella

Our gorgeous boy, Scoot, passed away early this morning in his sleep.
They said he wasn't as strong as they thought he was. We're heartbroken.

sorry to hear that, just read the thread, and the same had happened with my springer spaniel back in jan of this year. However he was 14 and the vet said he would not survive the op as he had lost a lot of blood internally so we had to have him put to sleep. Hardest thing I have ever done (mind you my dad collapsed at the vets and had to be taken to hospital - luckily he's okay)
I know how you are feeling mate,my Hungarian Kuvash went the same way last week,11 stone dog could hardly walk he was so weak. The Vet couldn't stop the bleeding, even took my male chocolate Lab down to give him blood to try and clot his blood, but sadly he had to be put down the next morning to stop him suffering.
Then to rub salt in the wound, this week my female chocolate lab has been diagnosed with a tumour in her spleen,at first they thought it was immune mediated hemolytic anemia,so she goes in to morrow to have her spleen removed and set away for testing, fingers crossed.

Thanks guys. It's hard to believe and accept he has really gone - he was fine Monday night - even playing with my sister in laws dog who is staying at the moment. I'm just glad we had steak on Monday ( Scoot got most of it
). To go down hill in that short space of time was and still is a shock, the vets telling us he was getting better gave us hope and then the phone call yesterday really wasn't expected.
Spent most of yesterday in tears. This morning I just feel really numb, knowing that when you walk in the door he isn't going to be there with his favourite toy.. My fiance is devestated.
again now.
Merv, I'm really sorry to hear about your dog passing - and now your other one isn't well
. I hope its something which can be sorted. I'l keep my fingers crossed for you. Let us know how she is.
