Oh come on it's my day off, where is the remote. There is nothing VIP about a Vicky ten, and any one who has the misfortune to stay at akrotiri will not want reminding about Golf dispersal and having to fix jets in that tin hanger.

Oh well best shuffle to itv and watch the All Star Cup

rob878 : I thought it was interesting. we are all aware that living conditions on these bases isn't the Ritz. Doesn't take away from the fact that those chaps do some hairy stuff. Good on 'em I say.

Feckin crabs!!! You don't know how lucky you are!! Akrotiri was 5* in comparison to Salamanca Barracks, Episkopi. Which was a condemned barracks that the army decided to continue housing soldiers in. So stop whinging and go and check out the Army accomodation.!

And which one do you drive on a daily basis?

The Hawk is pretty basic - hence why it's used as a trainer. All the flying is done by eye and pilot control. There's probably more computing power in the mobility scooter than the airframe / engine controls!

I'll bite...

Have you even the slightest idea of how wrong you are..?

Boring farts? - What did you expect, fecking Top Gun?

Having spent time watching them train on base, and sitting in on a briefing or two, I can tell you these guys work so hard it unbelievable.

They are utter professionals, and to be honest, they're operating on a level most of us can only dream about...

I watched this. I would love to be a back seat passenger in one of those hawks... the ultimate experience at 8G...

Thought Duffy might ace it seeing as he is a Hawk instructor but he was naff in the interview... flying skills aren't everything - but they help

I was suprised at the final choice. Thought Kermit was in there.

Pete, at what altitude do you normally fly your electric scooter ?

Have to admit I love the Red Arrows

But it's also true to say that some other 'real' RAF pilots think they are a bunch of ballerina fairies. And whatever they say, they are first and foremost a PR outfit for the RAF/armed forces/Britain. But who cares

Whatever, I'm sure Tom Cruise could show them a thing or two

hey.

Wondering if anyone could name the song they used alot on the programme.

had a guitar intro and some of the words were 'give me something' or similar. sounds like a new song, like indie style, dont know. Thought it was really good, but cant name it. ive tried looking everywhere.
I know they also used foo fighters too.

any ideas would be great.

cheers

Not sure military spending works like that Nat, but I too thought they picked the wrong guys to follow

All nice clean cut chaps weren't they? And that gushing commentary will have a few battle-hardened dog-fighters puking into their face masks.

Still love The Reds though

Richard.

It's a fair point, but you can say that about just about anything. In a recent defence review, the MoD were found to have spent just over £250k on pictures to decortate high rank offices...

If you've ever worked with the MoD, you'll know that they have some very strange monetary habits...

Actually The Reds are quite cheap to run. The Hawk is pretty much the cheapest aircraft in service at the moment.

And as for the facilities, well they're usually in the corner of an existing base, and are modest at best.

If you've ever seen what the American Blue Angels have to work with, it puts our lads' efforts into perspective.

PSL once again showing his jealousy at not being employed in flying duties!

The VC 10 incidentally is an outstanding aircraft for the jobs it does. I enjoyed every minute that I flew it.

The Hawk is a high speed trainer which I have also flown It is a good aircraft also and is very pleasant to fly-without computers of course.

I have also flown on a display at Plymouth with the Arrows. I enjoy close formation flying very much and have done a great deal it over the years. I can assure you that the Arrows are an excellent formation team second to none, and it is not an easy thing to do at all let alone as well as they do. Nothing pansy about them I can assure you.

The Blue Angels, whom, I got to know quite well in the states are also a very good aerobatic team in their own style which involves disappearing for a while when they set up their next flypast formation.

I fully support the idea of having flying display display teams in the RAF in order to entertain the public.

Servicemen who risk their lives in combat are certainly to be admired.

pete, calm down your showing your age now

considering you work in defence you would have thought you would have more respect, or was that another one of your made up stories?

maybe at the minute they are told where to go what to do, but when push come to shove, and someone tries to invade, who will be on the front line?

trench warfare is a thing of the past that will never happen again, thank god, modern warfare is too fast for trench's.
but that another story.

ok pete you think its so easy y don't you try to replicate it using cars, do some side by side with a mate (if you have one, if not you may need to pay someone), do a few turns etc at varyng speeds and see what happens.

then imagine doing the same at 10 times the speed, o and having up and down to worry about o and 7 other planes

get vid cam out so you can post up the results or your atempts, unless of course you don't have the *****??? or are you busy changing your oil again? must have done 3k since the last time???
