Can you provide a credible source for such an outrageous claim?
I work in Southampton and exactly 2 patients out of 3000 are Polish (and they've been here since WW2)

Government estimate - 26,000. Actual number - anywhere from 450-600,000.
I'm sorry, but even the most dimwitted feckwit in the world would have realised that as one of the most prosperous nations on Earth, 26,000 was the most abysmal, shockingly incompetent estimation you could ever imagine. Just what sort of world do these people live in?? Not the real one, that's for bloody sure.

I cant find the link for it on the BBC web site. it was on the news last night, it also covered the fact that out of all them polish in Southampton only 110 of them were provided with housing. It also gave a figure for benefits but I cant remember it, I was trying to read my book at the time.

I'd be happy for the hard-working Poles to stay assuming access to benefits are cut to a minimum until theyve worked here and paid taxes for a resonable number of years - and other workshy immigrants who have come here from Afghanistan etc can be returned home now their country is safe enough.

Only 3% of poles have applied for benefits. However the 600000 influx of immigrants in 2 years from the Eastern bloc countries (not to mention the 300000 from the rest of the world) IS driving down wages Where as our company was offering £6.50 an hour for quality control staff, it has now dropped to nmw because they know there are plenty of poles prepared to work for that.
Official excuse is they had to do this to remain competitive, although their profits also seem to have jumped 5million in 3 years

Hello
Generally speaking, Polish people are hard working and do not resort to benefits. I say generally as it obviously will not be true in all cases, but the ones I have met (over the last 10 years, my wife is Polish) are here to work, pay taxes and earn money.
I have a huge problem with people (irrespective of the nationality) coming to England and expecting benefits of any kind as if you come to another country you should be there to work and fit in not expect to be paid for by the government.

What do you think will be the long term effects of driving down the average wage across a whole spectrum of lower-skilled occupations though? Easy to say it's market forces, but is it fair to expect British workers to accept the same low standard of living as these mainly young, dependentless and probably fairly transient economic migrants? Is that in the UK's best long term interests?

Well, I am Polish and my wife is from Pakistan, we are going to be moving to England (Bristoli) in Oktober and we have been treated very wel by the British Embasy here in Warsaw. They have arange most of the paperwork for us and we will only be receiving 840 pounds per week in benefit as we don't have any children but our rent for the house will also be paid for us. I don't think we will have to work when we live there, I am 38 and my wife is 32, we look forward to visiting your coast.

Its strange that the only people who have no reservations about the influx of migrants are buisness leaders in fact they were screaming that we need more on newsnight a while ago. Its all very well calling the English lazy, but you try paying a mortgage, utility bills and running a car on £5.30 an hour
If I was made redundant I would need a job at least £10 an hour and 50 hours a week to make it viable for me to work.
