Racism and the Law II
It has been interesting to observe the threads on racism, especially the responses to what racism is or isn't.
The bottom line is that racial discrimination is against the law. If users of Scoobynet felt that they had in some way been disadvantaged because the of the behaviour of Scoobynet users then it could be against the law. This is unlikely.
Racial prejudice, which represents a lot of what has been posted in threads of these topics is not against the law. There is no law to say you cannot be racially prejudiced. So I hate to disappoint the anti-PC crowd, however it is not unlawful to continue or even express your prejudice.
Equally, a clear exemption from race law it the media. So again a disappointment for the anti-PC crowd, the media can express as much prejudice as they like, although strangely they choose a more moderate tone.
However it is illegal to incite racial hatred. So it is fine to state that you hate Brazilians for example, however it you try and encourage others to hate Brazilians then you could be breaking the law.
The big grey area comes into the expression of your personal racial prejudice (and let's face it each and every one of us has some form of prejudice) and where this crosses the line and becomes either incitement or discrimination.

Thank you Rannoch The other threads had a sort of "entertainment" value for a while .....your statement reminds me that there are still many folk who actually know the real concept of "racism".

Everyones definition of racist differs, some however feel they have to champion the causes of others, even when the others dont find the situation or remarks racist.
sometimes i think we need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture.
we tell our kids that calling names dosent hurt, yet as soon as we get older we suddenly take offence, why?
I agree that some people do it to cause embarrasment or hurt, but whats wrong with the stock response, f*ck off xx xx xx ?
the only way to eradicate it all is to abolish religion, and race. And breed us all from test tubes, and stamp a number on our foreheads
