Bank Fraud Help required !!!!!!
Hi
I need a bit of help.
Basically, last year my girlfriend and I bought a house and decided to open a joint account. My girlfriend closed her account with her bank and recieved confirmation in the post of the account closure. Now, 9 months later we reiceved a telephone call from the police to say they have been contacted by my girlfriends former bank with regards to fraudulent behaviour by a bank employee. Basically, the bank employee didn't close my girlfriends account and instead took out a £30k loan in her name and changed her address to one we have no connection with.
The Bank in question admitted it was fraud by their employee but their conduct since then has been brilliant. Whilst all of this was going on my girlfriend was eight months pregnant. We have received several letters from the bank chasing payment despite them knowing it is fraud and they have made entries against her credit rating. They even employed tracing agents to locate her at our current address as the address they had, sorry, the one made up by their employee didn't respond. obviously!
My girlfriends credit rating has affected our ability to get a loan and the whole experience has been extremely distressing, costly and time consuming at an already stressful time in our lives.
After making a formal complaint the bank in question has agreed to make a compensatory lump sum payment and my query therefore is how much would we be entitled to?
I look forward to receiving your responses.
Regards
Jonathan
