Literally,
we are heading into the Perseids, Aug-8-15 best days around the 12/13th best time between 2am and dawn. Although many hits will be visible after midnight.
at peak, there can be upto 100 per hour!!!
good long firetrails accross the sky!!!

this links shows what you see, and its eeery!!! you see them streak accross the sky in my case in an east to south direction, and they are silent!! you almost expect to have a noise/ or a rumble behind them, but its just silence
well worth staying up for

Question if I may...will we be able to see these without a telescope? I mean, if we just wonder out at around 2-3 and look up we can see them? (although 2-3 am after a night out on Saturday and looking up in the sky may lead to a lot of falling over!)

no telescope needed!!!!! there that big, some trails can be virtually over half the of night sky!! they vary from yellowy firetrails, to white streaks as others have said, they vary from year to year, another good thing to look for while your eyes accustom to the starfield, is sattelites, its quite strange to watch a supposed star hammering accross the night sky!!

Also a good chance to see mercury if you have never seen it!
Venus is very easy to find seeing as its the brightest thing in the sky bar the sun and moon and mercury is very close by!

CLouds last night too, but they are mooving quite quickly
one thing to factor in, is the moon, its a full one at the mo, so dosent allow the eyes to get used to the normally black sky!!
still if you can find a way to block it out, shade etc you should be ok..
tried to have alook last night, but was very tired, so didnt stay around for long, mind you, the hedgehog that ran over my foot, made me jump!!
