Default Ipods

Mate just bought one (I use an iRiver) - can he download all his songs from his home pc - then plug it in and add a few songs from his Office Pc ? So far seems all it does is try to sync with the new machine and overwrite all data - is this poss and how would he do it ?

He'd need to go into iTunes then into it's preferences for iPods and tell it not to automatically sync the iPod with the iTunes Library.

But if u do that can u then add individual songs/albums to the ipod ?

(sorry if I am being stupid here)

Yes you can. The default setting is, as you've found, to auto-sync, so when you go from machine A to machine B, machine B will overwrite what machine A put on the iPod, and when you go back to Machine A, it'll wipe out what machine B put on the iPod. It's Apple's attempt to initially stop you from potentially stealing others music, but of course, you might have legit music on two different computers, hence the reason you can go into the iTunes preferences and change it so you can manually manage all the music on the iPod.

The one thing iTunes will not let you do is to copy music from the iPod into your iTunes library, but there are applications out there that will allow you to do this if you want.
