Default TV on Wall...Wiring questions.

Ok fella's,

I know a few on here have wall mounted there plasma's/LCD Tv's.How have you got around the wiring?

Ok..I need 3 scart and 1 power lead upto my plasma, but the unit where Sat/DVD/PS2 sits will be around 15-18 ft in cable away,of course taking in to account the drop down the wall and rise to the back of the units.

So i was thinking of channelling the wall and hiding all wires behind the skirting board.Seems to be the only way.Has anyone tried the Scart signal senders i have seen advertised?Do they have to have a large reciever out of the rear of the TV?If so that wouldn tbe any good to me..

So,any idea's appreciated. If i have to go down the 20ft scart lead scenario, does anyone know where i can get some at the right price? And where i can get a long lead for the PS2?At the moment its RGB lead with a converter on!!

Also,is the anyway i can cut down on the leads upto my TV?Would a scart switcher be of any use?Not sure how these work,or indeed would be any use for my application??

Any help or idea's appreciated.

have you considered an amp to switch all your imput sources ? There's only 1 signal cable to the TV then.....

Amp is extra expense and another box!

Profiglod scarts are good quality without being stupid price. Have used these and price delivery is superb.

Cheers Mark..£50 a piece aint too bad i guess..

DCI...SO,let me get this right..
1 scart lead from TV into Scart splitter?
3 short scart leads into splitter from components?
Splitter box then controls what signal is going up the single scart to the TV??

Do i have to have S video and audio leads instead of a single scart upto the TV??

Gotta say, this sounds the way to go,i would only need 1 scart and a power lead upto the plasma...

Do i have this info right??

Ta..

Yep, that's more or less bob on....

The S-video and audio leads are smaller to run than a chonking great scart lead far better in quality too........

Just need to make sure that the outputs from your DVD/PS2/SKY match the inputs on the audio/video (scart splitter) controller and away you go.....

To infinity and beyond.............

A scart IS a scart, but you need to make sure that the 'splitter' takes 3 scart inputs and has either 1 scart output or S-vid & audio etc......

I may of made this actually sound more confusing than it is...... but trust me its a piece of p1ss...............

Here's an argos jobbie for less than 25 quid........

Argos code 5344297

  • Connects and switches between 3 scart equipped devices to 1 TV.
  • Automatically senses the play or operating mode of a particular device.
  • Allows viewing of programmes whilst recording from satellite or camcorder.
  • Additional phono outputs for connecting to additional TV/display/Hi Fi systems.

See what ya sayin now fella..

I take it that the TV has to have S-vid & audio connections to make it compatible??

On the back of my plasma it has a

VGA socket
3 scart inputs
Yb Pb Pr socket(red,blue,green)
Audio out(red/white)
No function(black).

Gimme a clue fella

The best quality connection would be the Yb Pb Pr connections, also known as component. RGB Scart is next best, followed by s-video and composite. It sounds as though you haven't got s-video anyway, so the simplest solution would be to upconvert all of your inputs to component using an AV amp, as suggested by Steve. I'm sure you can get one for a reasonable price and it has the advantage of sounding much better, although you would also have to buy some speakers...

No prob...

So i buy an amp...

I already have a lot of quality 2 channel hifi(Naim,Linn)..

So the AV amp sits in with the rest of my 2 channel stuff,is it gonna cut down on wiring or is it just going to complicate things even more.(running component leads)?
All wiring has to be chased into the wall,so less the better i suspect.
Also if i was going to use my Linn speakers,i dont think i like the idea of the sound coming out of floorstanders while the plasma is way above it.Dont mind the sound of the plasma actually. It aint half bad..

If you get an AV receiver that upconverts all of your input signals to component, then you will only need one cable going into the TV. Component cables can be quite compact, mine is about the same diameter as coax cable and contains all three conductors, red, blue and green.

The option of routeing all of your scarts into one box and then having just one scart going into the tv will also work fine, just make sure it is rgb compatible and you select rgb scart in your tv menu, otherwise it just uses the composite signal, which is crap.

Nice one...Im just as confused as ever now really..

Looking on ebay and on a few sites, all the connections on the back of the AV amps seem to be component.Does this then mean all of your accessories have to have component outputs or do you buy a kinda Scart/component converter lead?
I know PS2 has component, not sure about DVD or digibox tho!!

I had a load of scart - component leads made up for the sky/tivo/vcr and a component > scart for the tv output.

My old panny dvd uses coax (vid) + optical (audio)

This place has a 'cable guy' who will make whatever you need to spec if you are anything like local...they also do good deals on demo/end of line stuff.
