Ok, a little background. A couple of months ago was going away for the weekend and g/f (honest) thought it would be a good idea to take some ****. Now, believe it or not don't have loads of the stuff hanging about the place, so she sent me a link to a website and I purchased a couple of DVD's on my debit card <--- big mistake.

Anyway, the DVD's turned up and they wern't bad, but then the next month more tured up as it apears in the small print (that being a bloke obvioulsy never read) that I had 'joined' their DVD club, which if I don't make a monthly selection they very kindly select for me and send my 'choices' automatically.

The upshot is, that although it was a uk website the DVD's are airmailed from the states and now has cost me £17 for the last couple of months, have emailed and phoned the contact details on the site (phone is an answering machine in London) and no replies.

The lesson is that if you buy a one off purchase once they have your debit/credit card number they can just make repeat demands to your bank account without the need for a DD or anything. So am now faced with closing account and opening another as this is the only way of stopping it.

Yeah, my fault I know, but thought would share and also see if anyone wants my back catalogue of 'all natural co-ed's'

Contact your credit card company and explain that you've tried to cancel but they are not replying, they may well be able to stop the transactions on your behalf.

Burn a load of copies, sell them to your mates at work and you will be in profit, as well as having a good collection that your g/f obviously enjoys watching with you

Was a debit card (but the same thing) have looked into it, and you have to sign a declaration saying that you are not commiting fraund and that you agree that there may be a penalty if they find in favour of the person taking the money and that they may need to freeze your account whilst the investigation is being carried out, which would be a nightmare for all the other DD's (mortgage, council tax, gas, electricity, etc. etc.) so sounds easier to close and get a new account, the bank was little to no help at all.

i did something similar - NOT **** though - i subscribed to Evo and auto express through a leaflet in a mag which means i get the mags around £1 per copy cheaper + free delivery. I now can't find out who i took the subscription out with and the payment comes off my debit card every month, looked at my on'line debits/ etc and nothing shows up
i just want to stop the subscriptions

If they all did you a copy and sent it you would have a vast collection

On a serious note, its a big problem, been on a few financial sites and there will be no trace of a DD or anything at your bank. Think about it, I paid my SKY subscription 5 years ago on my debit card that has now expired, yet without a DD they still take the payment on a card that is now no longer in service.

If you look at your debit/credit cards they only change the last few digits when you get issued with a new one so the banks only check the first set of numbers for them to release the funds, and if you cant contact the vendors that are taking the money, tough !

No wonder credit card fraud is so common.

Cant you just cancel the Switch card and get a new one sent, I know this as my internet provider (Nildram) uses my Switch to pay for my broadband and whenever I lose or destroy my Switch card (usually gets washed in my trousers) the payment wont go though.
